Day 1: Pick up Street Litter

Why should you do this? Litter is not only gross, but can also have a significant impact on the environment. When it washes into sewers, it can enter waterways. Once there, it can pollute the water with chemicals (like arsenic in cigarette butts) or plastics that can physically harm the animals.

If you are doing this with your kids, hold a little competition to see who picks up most! Just be sure to set ground rules about what they should and should not touch and make sure they wash hands thoroughly after!

Tip: Don’t want to touch icky stuff? Bring a tissue or a pair of gloves on your expedition.
