Backpack Ministry
Lenten Food Drive (& Time Change)

In order to coordinate the timing between packing, dining, and worshipping during Lent, we agreed to change the packing time to 5:45 pm on Wednesdays during Lent. This would be for 2/24, 3/2, 3/9, & 3/16.  This might also be an opportunity for people that work or go to school to experience this meaningful ministry – children are encouraged to participate. On Tuesday, March 22, we will pack 100 bags for spring break at 5 pm and then it is back to normal on Thursday, April 7 at 5 pm.  Items in need are milk, meat, and cereal.  Thank you for your continued support of this ministry.  Contact Karen Kranz for information.

Less Stress Parenting Seminar

Saturday, March 5, 10am - 4pm @ Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia

PARENTS WILL EXPLORE:
“How to be a LESS ANXIOUS PARENT”
“How to raise children with HIGH SELF ESTEEM”
“How to manage children’s OUTBURSTS OF ANGER”
“How to deal with a DISCOURAGED CHILD”
“How to raise FAITH-FILLED CHILDREN”
“How to prevent OVER-PARENTING AND UNDER- PARENTING”
“How to be a parent and STILL HAVE A LIFE”
This event will introduce parents to tried and true approaches to parenting children. It will lift the best parenting principles from the latest research on parenting and highlight the strongest points from the major models on Parenting. Principles will be gleaned from the following models: Active Parenting; Parent Effective Training; Systematic Training for Effective Parenting; Positive Esteem Parenting; How to Raise Faith-filled Kids; and Tough Love Parenting. Parenting training will be illustrated by the use of sitcom and movies clips. It will be quite humorous at times as parenting ideas are applied in the extremes or in the negative….to make the point. Instructor: Dr. Bill Mitcham is Director/Pastoral Counselor at The MMC Pastoral Counseling Center located at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia.

NO COST but registration is a must. Deadline to register - February 29.

Would You Like to Donate a Refrigerator or Vacuum Cleaner?

Living Springs is in need of a refrigerator. Do you have a refrigerator in good condition that you would like to donate? (Of course, we would graciously accept a new one as well!) There has been a wish that the next one would have a freezer on it, but not an absolute necessity. In order to fit into our space, the unit must be smaller than 40" wide.

Also, there has been a request for 1-2 additional vacuum cleaners (used, in good condition would be fine).

If you can help, please contact Ed Brennan, Jim Zieche or the church office

Lessons for Sunday, February 28

First Reading: Isaiah 55:1-9

To those who have experienced long years in exile, the return to their homeland is a celebration of abundant life. God calls them into an everlasting covenant of love. Those who return to the Lord will enjoy new life and forgiveness, because God’s ways are not our ways.

Psalm 63:1-8

O God, eagerly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you. (Ps. 63:1)

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Paul uses images from Hebrew story and prophecy to speak the truth of Jesus Christ: He is our rock, our water, our food, and our drink. Christ is the living sign of God’s faithfulness.

Gospel: Luke 13:1-9

Asked about current tragic events, Jesus turns a lesson about whether suffering is deserved into a hard call to obedience. He then tells a parable that holds out hope that the timeline for ultimate judgment will be tempered by patience.
