We are seeking volunteers for our transportation program. Volunteers provide rides to local residents using personal vehicles, to help them get to medical appointments. Timings are during the day, and are very flexible.
This is a great opportunity to meet new people, travel across Mississauga and the surrounding area, and to support individuals who are unable to get to their appointments. You will receive recognition from the Red Cross, and 24-hour phone support from staff.
For more information, and to sign-up to volunteer, go to:

Volunteer Spotlight: Craig Ross
Written by: Andrew Dmytrasz
Parents often encourage their children to get involved in different activities when they are young. It can be swimming lessons, music, or karate, to name a few. Occasionally the kids stick with it and continue with it throughout their adult lives, this was the case with Craig Ross.
When Craig was younger his parents encouraged him to volunteer as much as he could. He started out by joining his mom at nursing homes and continued through high school when he became politically active in maintaining funding for arts programs with his friends. He continued in law school where he became more politically active in keeping tuition fees down for students, as well as supporting opportunities for lower income students and tenant rights. Volunteering was something his mom instilled in him, it was something that was expected. It was through volunteering through high school and law school he realized the joy of volunteering in helping other people. In fact, most of his volunteering stemmed from looking at injustices that were occurring and wanting to stand up and do something about it.
Presently Craig spends most of his time volunteering in a variety of different capacities including, Vice President of the Board of Directors on the Board Executive Committee and Rights Review Committee, and donating 40 hours of his professional time as a lawyer to answer legal questions and share his expertise with families and individuals who are supported by Community Living Mississauga. Most of his volunteering tends to be at a director level because of his job as a lawyer as this is where he feels he can have the biggest effect on policies for the community and the province.
All of his volunteering has earned Craig the John Huether Award for Volunteering Excellence, in 2014, which was presented at Volunteer MBC’s 4th Annual Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony.

PREB-Ontario – A New Way to Recognize Volunteers
PREB-Ontario is a Volunteer Experience Recognition Program that supports capacity-building for the voluntary sector in Ontario through standardized volunteer recognition practices.
A set of online proprietary tools, PREB-Ontario is used to prepare personalized, official PREB Certificates that recognize volunteers for their skills demonstrated during their volunteer experiences.
PREB-Ontario was designed as a resilient and sustainable legacy to deliver personalized, official PREB Certificates to the 23,000 plus volunteers who supported the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, and is sponsored by the Government of Ontario.
Who Benefits from PREB-Ontario?
- Employers as it offers a credible reference and each certificate lists the tasks/activities performed by the volunteer, which are transferable to the workplace as they are aligned with the National Occupation Classification Code (NOC 2011)
- Employment Seekers as the certificates provide a formal demonstration of experience which can help distinguish yourself from others
- Youth as it provides a professional reference which can be helpful when applying for scholarship and bursary applications
- Voluntary organizations as it provides a more thorough overview of the volunteers’ contributions and can be a great resource to assist with volunteer recruitment
Using its membership of Volunteer Centres in Ontario, the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network (OVCN) provides the necessary framework to ensure that non-profits and voluntary organizations are PREB-Ontario certified and qualified to deliver PREB Certificates.
For more information about PREB-Ontario and PREB Certificates, CLICK HERE.
Encourage the organizations that you volunteer with to become PREB-Ontario certified. To find out how, they can contact Volunteer MBC at 905.238.2622.
