The financial crisis and increasing unemployment rates have had an impact on long term integration in the labour market. These challenges must be confronted with comprehensive and sustainable projects that facilitate the acquisition of skills in order to support workers ‘integration in the labour market of EU Member States. The programmes and activities implemented by our committed and competent members in the field of labour market integration deliver concrete and inspiring examples.
‘The Bakery Social Club’ project provided in Bulgaria by the Institute for Social Integration (ISS)
The project ‘Bakery’ enables disadvantaged youth to train and develop skills as certified bakers. This social enterprise equally functions as a community cultural centre that allows space for developing initiatives, such as group bread-baking classes and ceramic workshops. These activities enabled 25 young locals to join a specific sector in the Bulgarian labour market.

‘The social economy is my chance’ programme implemented in Romania by CONECT (formerly known as ADO SAH ROM)
The “Social economy is my chance” project promotes the development of social economy enterprises (SEEs). For this reason, SOLIDAR member CONECT has set up two bakeries and a publishing house with the aim of providing skills through vocational training and creating sustainable jobs contributing to the reduction of long term unemployment rates in the cities of Lasi, Suceava and Bucharest.

‘The experience of an intermediary association fighting against long term unemployment’ implemented in France by La Ligue de l’Enseignement
La Ligue de l’Enseignement, SOLIDAR member, supports vocational projects run by intermediary organisations. These service providers work as coordinators and provide support that enables job seekers to increase their chances of accessing sustainable employment oppportunties.

A social economy model that guarantees access to training skills and vocational lifelong learning programmes can reduce long term unemployment whilst enhancing people’s opportunities to achieve the best possible social outcomes. SOLIDAR Social Progress Watch (SWP) case studies offer a valuable insight into the link between appropriate training schemes and sustainable quality employments. An increased investment and recognition of the value of social economy enterprises is necessary in order to strengthen their role and the work they’re doing in promoting upward social convergence and labour market integration.
