Global Landscape Review of FIPs

Global Landscape Review of FIPs
The Global Landscape Review of Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) is an extensive study of the current state of global FIPs prepared by California Environmental Associates and Scaling Blue. The report summarizes findings of an increased number of FIPs over the past decade (roughly 10-15 new projects each year) with the assumption that these numbers will grow at a moderate pace in the future, and that the expected incremental volume and value captured by future FIPs relevant to Western markets will diminish over time. In addition to these findings, the report also summarizes the challenges FIPs face as they struggle to gain overall success and support from those outside of their internal stakeholders.

FishChoice, in partnership with the Conservation Alliance for Sustainable Seafood, will be launching a new website, FisheryProgress.org in summer 2016. A first-of-its-kind website, FisheryProgress.org will provide transparent, reliable, easy to access FIP progress information for seafood buyers, FIP implementors, and environmental NGOs. If you are attending Seafood Expo North America, come by the FishChoice booth #180 to see the latest developments for the website.

2016 Chefs Collaborative Summit

Chefs Collaborative Summit

Good Food is Smart Business

Join chefs, industry leaders, and environmental partners for the 7th annual Chefs Collaborative Summit April 10-12th in New York City. Choose from a wide range of workshops covering culinary trends including the emergence in popularity of underutilized fish in the kitchen. The workshop Why Underutilized Fish are Smart Business lead by chefs Michael Cimarusti and Derek Wagner will dive into ideas for using undervalued and underutilized fish, learning how to build relationships with local fishermen, and explore ways to butcher and prepare fish. Experts from the Environmental Defense Fund will also connect the dots between what chefs cook and serve to the health of our nation’s fisheries.

Kelly's Fresh Fish

Kelly's Fresh Fish
(Kent, Washington)

With over 25 years of experience in the seafood industry, Kelly’s Fresh Fish of Kent, WA brings fresh halibut and salmon to the Seattle and Tacoma areas. Quality is paramount at Kelly’s Fresh Fish, and as such, they are involved in the entirety of the fishing process from boat to table. Their fish are caught at the peak of their life cycle, at times when the feeding patterns of the fish can be rather ferocious. Often times their catch comes aboard with baitfish still lodged in their mouths which significantly adds to the high oil content and omega-3 fatty acids that give their fish their impeccable flavor.
