UpToDate Launches New Primary Care Sports Medicine Specialty


UpToDate with new content in Primary Care Sports Medicine provides point of care clinical decision support solutions including evidence based clinical content with graded recommendations.

UpToDate is available from the Medical Library.

When you launch UpToDate , click Specialties to see Primary Care Sports Medicine (Adolescent and Adults) and explore the contents, including: 
  • Adolescent sports medicine
  • Biomechanics, rehabilitation, and recovery
  • Exercise, sports nutrition
  • Medical issues related to sports and exercise
  • Procedures
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Symptom assessment and physical examination
  • What's new in sports medicine (primary care) 
  • Patient Information

Stay Ahead of the Game with Ovid eTOC Alerts


With Ovid eTOC Alerts you can:
  • Receive an email alert whenever the table of contents for a journal is updated.
  • Know what's published as soon as it's out. 
  • Be punctually informed and up-to-date on news, revisions and product information.
It's easy to set up an eTOC alert:

Go to the Medical Library home page, click Ovid. If you don't have a personal account, click "MyAccount" to create one in order to save searches, create alerts, and manage research.

Next, follow these steps:
  1. Click "MyWorkSpace" with your personal account
  2. Enter the email address to which you'd like the alerts 
  3. Choose your favorite journal (s)
  4. Choose your preferred alert format

HealthMap.org


HealthMap.org is founded and established by a team of researchers, epidemiologists and software developers at Boston Children's Hospital. HealthMap.org provides: 
  • Online informal sources for disease outbreak
  • Monitoring and real-time surveillance of emerging public health threats
  • Freely available website and mobile app 'Outbreaks Near Me'
  • 24/7/365 updated information, in 9 languages
Look up for the latest daily diseases and other global public health threats including a map to Zika.

Ovid Introduces ‘Request
Permissions’ Service through RightsLink for Wiley Content


Beginning in February, whenever you access Wiley content through Ovid, with a couple of easy clicks you can request permission to re-use that content in your own projects. After navigating to the article on the journal’s website, find "Request Permission" located on the right of the page under Article Tools and follow these steps:
  • Click the new "Request Permissions" button, which you'll see on the image above.
  • It will open a RightsLink screen where you can view the re-use options available. 
  • Follow the online instructions and select the option you need. 
  • Click 'quick price' to get a quote. 
  • Create a RightsLink® account to complete your transaction. 
  • Read and accept the Terms & Conditions. 
  • Download your permissions license.

NIH Body Weight Planner

For more than 2 out of 3 Americans who are either overweight or obese, there’s now a free, research-based tool to help them reach their goals: the NIH Body Weight Planner is available online

To use the NIH Body Weight Planner, enter your weight, sex, age, height and physical activities during work and leisure. Then enter a target date for reaching your goal weight. You can also add details like percent body fat and metabolic rate. The planner will then calculate your personal calorie and physical activity targets to achieve your goal and maintain it over time.

MedPix®, Free Online Medical Image Database


The National Library of Medicine is pleased to announce the launch of MedPix®, a free online medical image database with over 53,000 indexed and curated images, from over 13,000 patients. MedPix® is a fully web-enabled cross-platform database, integrating images and textual information. 

To view the case of the week list or the most recent one, click on CME, then turn OFF the Quiz radio button which is ON by default,, you will be able to view case information, history and disease discussion from this point on.

NEJM & Zika Virus Resource Page


In the context of a public health emergency of international concern, and to ensure the global response to public health emergencies, which is informed by the best available research evidence and data, the New England Journal of Medicine made all content concerning the Zika virus free access.
