The difference between an agent and a Realtor®

Many Realtors® are asked what makes a Realtor® different than an agent. You know that a Realtor® is a licensed real estate salesperson who belongs to the National Association of Realtors®, and their local and state associations.

And what distinguishes you is that as a Realtor®, you are held to a higher ethical standard than licensed agents and must adhere to a Code of Ethics.

As a Realtor®, you are the most trusted resource for real estate information because you are familiar with your local markets. You know what matters to buyers and sellers in your area because you have the expertise and experience. You provide guidance to home buyers and sellers during the real estate transaction.

Many clients don’t understand what Realtors® do to earn their commission. They don’t realize that in a typical transaction, a Realtor® will work with a client about 12 weeks, looking at an average of 10 properties before choosing a home, according to NAR. Too many clients have seen reality TV and believe the Realtor® only works a few hours a day and makes loads of money!
