SPECIAL PROGRAMS FOR LENT
After worship we continue our two Lenten Programs: A discussion of Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, and an opportunity to participate in Godly Play.

THE NEW JIM CROW
Whether you have read the book or not, consider listening to the powerful "Women of Spirit" lecture delivered by Michelle Alexander to an inspired audience at Union Theological Seminary last year, as she frames the movement to end mass incarceration and racial caste as spiritual work. Well worth your time for reflection this week. Our weekly discussion will be organized as follows:

Feb. 28:  How the System Works (Chaps 2 & 3)
Mar. 6:   Racial Indifference and the Undercaste (Chaps 4 & 5)
Mar. 13:  The Movement (Chapter 6)

INTERGENERATIONAL GODLY PLAY
At the same time as the above study, children, parents and anyone interested in learning new stories, or hearing old stories in new ways, is invited to "Godly Play” with Pastor Lynn and our Godly Play teaching team. In the Godly Play classroom above the Conference Room.

CALL ON WENDY'S TO UPHOLD FARMWORKERS' RIGHTS - MAR. 3

Coalition of Immokalee Workers [http://ciw-online.org] is holding a big march and rally in NYC on Thursday afternoon, March 3rd, calling on Wendy's to join the Fair Food Program [http://fairfoodprogram.org].  For over three years, Wendy’s has stubbornly refused to join this award-winning program that ensures humane wages and working conditions for the workers who pick fruits and vegetables on participating farms.  Its competitors McDonald’s, Burger King, Subway and Yum! Brands (Taco Bell/KFC) are among the 14 corporations that are supporting the program.

There will be an initial rally on W58th St. and 8th Ave (close to Columbus Circle) at 4pm followed by a 1.5 mile march to the offices of Wendy’s Chairman, Nelson Peltz. Read
all details on the event. [http://ciw-online.org/workersvoice/event/march-nyc/?instance_id=14 ]

White Plains Presbyterian Church’s involvement in past actions have been helpful in bringing Trader Joe's and Ahold (Stop n Shop) into the Fair Food Program.  And we really could use your help again.  The photo above is of Carmen Grey praying out in front of Stop n Shop and Lynn marching during our local rally!  And the PC(USA) as a denomination has mobilized thousands of its members since 2002 to bring about what are

For anyone who would like to travel with others headed to the march, there is a bus departing from Manhattanville College.  Here are the bus details (be sure to select the Westchester bus):

Food Chains [http://www.foodchainsfilm.com] TONIGHT, (Wed. 2/24) at 7:00pm at the Fellowship of Reconciliation, 521 N.
