Saint Paul, MN (March 2016) - The Schubert Club announces the Bruce P. Carlson Scholarship Competition Winners Recital, a free concert featuring the winners of the 2016 Student Scholarship Competition.

Audience members can look forward to seeing and hearing the best of the local rising musical stars in the categories of piano, strings, voice, guitar, brass and woodwinds. Many winners from the past have gone on to have very bright musical careers playing with major orchestras and renowned ensembles across the nation. This is a unique opportunity to “hear them first.”

Alison Young, Minnesota Public Radio host, will be hosting the event.

Admission is free.

About the Competition:
The Schubert Club Student Scholarship Competition, held each spring, awards approximately $50,000 annually to young musicians to be used for further musical education.

The competition began in 1922, celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Schubert Club. It started modestly with three winners representing the categories of voice, violin, and piano.  The competition has since grown to fourteen different categories with two cash prizes awarded for each category – $2000 and $1500 – to be used for further musical education. The winners of each category are also invited to perform in the annual Winners Recital.

The Competition is named in memory of Bruce P. Carlson, executive director of The Schubert Club from 1968 to 2006.
