Little Free Libraries

A Plan in Motion
Stanislaus READS! is connecting the dots to put more Little Free Libraries on the map in this county. First, funds were collected and 25,000 new children's titles were ordered from First Book. Second, students enrolled in the Logistics Class at Patterson High School, under the direction of teacher James Toste, received shipment of some 30 pallets and sorted the titles into "kits." Third, the cadets at the Stanislaus Military Academy (SMA) started building the Little Free Libraries using seed money from the Stanislaus Community Foundation. With the assistance of teacher Ron Kunnen, students chose plans for indoor and outdoor versions of these over-sized bird houses. Students at the Great Valley Academy volunteered to paint three indoor libraries for the Health Services Agency's pediatric clinic waiting room for easy client access. This type of coordination is a great example of how we can connect the dots between resources and needs. We truly are a community of abundance!
