NEWS AND STORIES FOR THIS MONTH
Only 1 week remaining to register for the 10th Wave of ENoLL
There is only 1 week left to apply to become a member of ENoLL as a part of the 10th Wave! Today ENoLL includes over 170 active Living Lab members worldwide (with 395 historically recognised over 9 years). Public and private organisations from across the world actively committed to engaging and empowering users and citizens to take part in sustainable innovation processes are invited to apply for membership of the European Network of Living Labs as a part of the 10th Wave. Read more about the process & criteria for 10th Wave membership here. Completed applications must be sent by March 8th, 2016 at 12:00 CET.
Open Innovation 2.0 Conference 2016, 23-34 May, Amsterdam
Expected to gather more than 350 people the Open Innovation 2.0 Conference will welcome innovation experts, policy-makers, academics and citizens in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, on 23rd and 24th May 2016. Key topics for the 2016 event are European Innovation Living labs, Innovation Ecosystems, OI2 funding opportunities under Horizon 2020, Online Engagement Platforms and it is going to be one of the key events for innovation actors this year. Together with our event hosts, Communautique & Concordia University, we are pleased to announce that tickets for OpenLivingLab Days 2016 are now available for purchase! Call for workshops at OpenLivingLab days now open
Transfer knowledge, find peers & build futures: the call for workshops at OpenLivingLab Days is now open. ENoLL members, stakeholders and other Living Lab practitioners are all welcome to contribute and co-create the agenda by submitting a workshop proposal. Deadline for submissions: April 14th 2016. Submit your papers on Living Labs until April 11th
Our annual call for papers on Living Labs remains open until April and this year includes a special collaboration with the Technology Innovation Management Review (TIM Review) in order to offer the best papers submitted to OpenLivingLab Days the opportunity to be published in a special TIM Review dedicated to Living Labs. Deadline for submission: 11th April 2016 with the Research Day at OpenLivingLab Days taking place on 23rd August 2016. More details, topics and submission information can be found here.
NEWS FROM MEMBERS
New smart city book published by Pieter Ballon, iMinds Living Labs
Congratulations to Pieter Ballon, director of IMinds Living Labs and Secretary of ENoLL on the launch of his new book “Smart Cities: How technology makes our cities smarter and liveable.” The book looks into how we can keep cities livable and create a balance between the opportunities and pitfalls that technology brings to our urban experience. Labsitec and e-BRICK HOUSE join espaitec’s e’LivingLab Project
The Laboratory of Psychology and Technology (Labsitec) and e-Brick House project have recently joined the e'LivingLab Project of the Science, Technology and Business Park of the UJI (espaitec) in order to set up collaboration mechanisms between UJI research projects and Living Lab settings internationally. espaitec will help UJI groups identify H2020 projects, analyse successful models to encourage the exchange of good practices, and collaborate in diffusing various projects undertaken by both groups. Botnia Living Lab launching pilot study with end users
For the past month Botnia Living Lab has been executing a pilot study for EU PF7 project USEMP - a project about user empowerment for enhanced online management. Users have been actively involved within the development of project outcomes from early phases of concept development until first version of the pilot study which was completed recently: a great example of how Living Lab play an important role in research and innovation project. A film outlining the tool which is being developed, tested and evaluated in the USEMP project can be found here.
International Symposium on Urban Living Labs in Newscastle
Symposium on Urban Living Labs took place last week at University of Newcastle, UK, on the 25-26th February 2016.  The symposium brought together urban living labs from around the world to share practical and scientific experiences. Co-organised by ENoLL Member, Newcastle Living Lab at the University of Newcastle the event featured a selection of inspiring speakers including ENoLL President, Tuija Hirvikoski who spoke about ENoLL’s experience with urban Living Labs and examples from the network and attracted the participation of numerous ENoLL urban Living Labs

What is preventing EU from becoming the first-in-class Innovation environment? What issues should policy makers be aware of? FUTURIUM, an EC initiative, offers a great opportunity for you to share your issues, launch new discussions on the future of innovation & bring your ideas on how EU could become an innovation friendly environment! We know Living Labs can offer a lot to this discussion so get involved & help shape innovation policy for the 21st Century!
Creative Ring challenge: supercharge your creativity!
The Creative Ring Challenge is part of the CreatiFI project, one of the FIWARE accelerators involving ENoLL and introducing FIWARE technologies to Creative Industries and web entrepreneurs. The Creative Ring Challenge invites SMEs, startups, web-entrepreneurs and developers to participate to challenges organized in collaboration with local creative hubs (Trento, Barcelona, Helsinki and Benelux). Call for Reference Sites of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing is now open!
The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing is looking for new "Reference sites." Are you a leader in innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing? Could you help catalyze innovations that improve the lives and health of older people? Becoming a Reference Site permits you to network extensively, promote your projects, attract new stakeholders, share good practices and build collaboration across borders. Introducing “Lose your way: Towards a citizen-driven city” workshop: how to engage
On the 22nd of April ENoLL and Tampere UAS co-organize the workshop "Lose your way: Towards a Citizen-driven city" in Amsterdam. This workshop is part of the conference Design & the City 2016 and explores the concept of Smart Cities through a lens that promotes citizens as the driving force of urban innovation and urban planning. You can engage through a pitching session: present your user-centred smart city project!

ENoLL Call for Living Lab evaluators
ENoLL is selecting ENoLL Living Lab experts to participate in the evaluation of its 10th Wave Call for Membership applications. Candidates with proven expertise, solid knowledge and track record in the ENoLL Living Lab model and Living Lab operations are warmly invited to apply by March 8th. Launch of the FIWARE Foundation
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week, ATOS, Engineering, Orange and Telefonica announced the setup of the FIWARE Foundation championing the way forward on behalf of the much larger FIWARE community. The Foundation will ensure the long-term availability of FIWARE for users, for free, forever! The Foundation will engage with the open-source developer community and ensure that FIWARE stays at the forefront of technological trends and will continue to connect startups, SMEs and industry through FIWARE implementations.
