On Tuesday, February 23rd, Micah Greene of West Bloomfield High School passed away in his home.  Micah was a joy to behold as an educator, mentor and director and his tireless efforts on behalf of his students made a significant difference in thousands of lives in the West Bloomfield community.  Just three weeks ago, he and Jennifer Williamson ran a wonderful Orchard Lake Film Festival with amazing presenters, screenings and an overall hospitality and excitement of learning that encapsulated his classroom.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers or gifts that donations may be made to:  West Bloomfield High School Theatre  4925 Orchard Lake Rd.  West Bloomfield, MI  48323.

8 Days to Submit Entries!!

A gentle reminder about the March 4th deadline for submissions for the Michigan Student Film Festival.  Please encourage your students and teachers to check out the criteria for judging at our festival page.  Big thanks to MPI and Specs Howard who are donating full-scholarships as prizes!  We also have been informed that some key sponsors may be on-board soon to allow a wide-range of special prizes!

Don't forget to join us for a full-day of judging in Southfield on Saturday, March 19th--more info below and at this link
DAFT and the DIA's Detroit Film Theatre
We are proud to continue our great relationship with the DIA's historic Detroit Film Theatre.  In addition to the April 23rd Michigan Student Film Festival, DAFT has also been invited to participate in the following great events.  Look for our blue DAFT table in the lobby!
  • Thursday March 3:  Bring your kid to the DFT:  A child-friendly edited version of Oscar Shorts (more information to follow)
  • 4 pm Saturday March 26: Animation Club:  Welcome to the Space Show (animation)
  • 4 pm Saturday April 9:  Animation Club:  Song of the Sea
  • 4 pm Saturday April 30:  Animation Club:  Nocturna

Reserve Your Spots for Focal Point 2016 - July 11-15
 
Presented by DAFT and Royal Oak Schools, The Focal Point Video Workshop provides an intensive, hands-on video study for adults and mature high school students. In one week participants will work with video from concept to finished product. Award-winning media educators John Prusak and Michael Conrad will be your facilitators.

All skill levels are welcome and course work can be geared to accommodate specific interests and needs.  More information including registration and a video of last year's highlights at this link.

Judging Opportunities for DAFT (3/19) and MIPA (3/5)!

MIPA Judging Saturday March 5th in Lansing:  Even if you're not a journalism or video pro, you'll be paired with an experienced judge. Judging Day is a great opportunity to see some of the amazing journalism that students across Michigan are producing for their newspapers, yearbooks, broadcast programs and news websites. You’ll leave inspired and with great ideas that you can put to use in your own classroom.. Click here to register!

DAFT Judging Saturday March 19th in Southfield:  We will be hosting our major Saturday judging session in Southfield on March 19th.  If you are interested in participating in joining one of our cozy reviewing teams (with juice/bagels & lunch provided) complete a quick interest form at this link!  Educators, media professionals or just big fans of media are welcome!
