Dear wolf advocate
We at Howling For Wolves are writing to you because you live in Oregon and the Oregon wolf urgently needs you to call your state Senator to oppose HB 4040.

Last fall, the OR Fish and Wildlife Commission voted 4-2 to delist wolves from the Oregon ESA, in a fundamentally-flawed decision.  Now the Oregon state legislature is voting to make that decision permanent and to block judicial review of the OR Fish and Wildlife Commission’s delisting. If passed, it is likely that the Governor will sign this bill into law.

If HB 4040 is passed and becomes law, it will make any court challenge to wolf delisting impossible.  In fact, the lawsuits that have been filed to review this delisting will be stopped in their tracks.
Your state senator can be found in this linkPlease call today.

Representative Peter DeFazio’s (D-OR) wrote a strongly worded letter to the Oregon Senate Democrats opposing HB 4040.  Some of his statements may assist you with your call. He stated, “Decisions on whether to remove a species from the state ESA should not be taken lightly or used as a political bargaining chip.  At the very least, you should be sure that the Department’s recommendation to delist the wolf is legally and scientifically sound.”   Congressman DeFazio stated, "HB 4040 also preempts judicial review of the decision, an extreme precedent-setting measure that should not be taken lightly. I believe the true purpose of HB 4040 is to block the current court case pending against the state.”

Please contact your state Senator and Governor Brown and ask them to oppose this bill today.

Thank you for all you do for the wolf!
