Tops! Tops! Tops are my thing. Everyone that follows me knows that I believe that 75% of your closet should be comprised of great tops and 25% should be made up of basic bottoms. The top changes the look and the neckline of the top creates the interesting architecture of the entire outfit. Now for Spring 2016 I am going to travel into uncharted territory. Fashion bottoms may be the solution to adding some newness to your wardrobe. Now please don't go off and load your closet with this trend. Just a few can recreate your solid tops into magazine-worthy looks.

Pattern bottoms are everywhere. As I wandered the aisles of all the stores in my area I discovered some that I thought would be fun to try. Let's start with a slim skirt that has a brightly colored floral motif. Flowers splashed across a white background looks fresh and fun. Note: If you are not comfortable with all those flowers, layer your top outside and elongate it to the hip to reduce the print.

TIP: Whenever you discover a piece of clothing that incorporates a blend of colors, count the number of colors. Each color represents a road map allowing you to travel to your solid tops that coordinate. Each time you match a different solid top to that bottom the outfit will look different. I do that when coordinating the colors in a man's tie to different color shirts. This gives you more looks with fewer pieces.

White options look fresh for this Spring 2016. Select a slim white pencil skirt and your closet top classification will freshen immediately. Add an ankle length white set of pants and double your options. For those neutral lovers out there I saw stunning pieces that can be mixed with white to camel or your tried and true khaki bottoms.

Tip: The total white outfit makes a fresh appearance and takes a pair of colored shoes anywhere. There are some amazing floral options out there today in flats and heels. I also loved all the colored handbags on the shelves and fringed bags are still out front.

Are you a Pearl Girl? I am! The total white outfit begs for some pearl accessories blended with silver or gold. I stopped into Unode50 an amazing jewelry boutique and went wild over some of their statement pieces. Check them out!

The last trend is one I will add. The Bow! They are everywhere. If you are a Classic lover you can add a bow blouse! If you are a Romantic the bows have always been your love.

Winter may hold on a bit longer but now is the time to get into your closet and review your spring options. What did you love wearing? What pieces will need to be freshened at the laundry or dry cleaner? Take a tour of your tops and wade through that sea of black and add just a couple of brights. Make that list and head off into the aisles of your favorite stores. Spring is already there!

Enjoy!
