New U.S. EPA Tool Helps Operators Safeguard Source Water
|

|
Water operators, state programs, and federal agencies can no find critical information needed to protect drinking water sources with EPA's new Drinking Water Mapping Application to Protect Source Waters (DWMAPS). The robust, online mapping tool lets users see if source waters are polluted and if there are possible sources of pollution that could affect their communities’ water supply. DWMAPS can also teach the public about their watershed and water supplier, in addition to giving guidance on how they can get involved in protecting community drinking water sources.
The mapping system does not display the locations of public water system facility intakes, but it does contain a wide variety of data useful to the protection of drinking water sources. DWMAPS was developed in consultation with EPA regional drinking water programs, state drinking water regulators, and public water systems.
