Fellow Republican,

Unlike the last e-mail, dealing with the Georgia legislation, this is to discuss who to vote for in Tuesday's primary, the Establishment, and to notify you of a few upcoming events (including Presidential campaign stops in GA)!. Please share with all your friends.

One thing you probably hear a lot about is the "Establishment" and a false narrative that anyone involved in politics, or in the GOP, or at all involved in politics is the "Establishment". This is untrue, and an attempt to direct attention away from their toxic nature.

The dictionary describes Establishment as "the existing power structure in society" or "institutional authority". Now, some may try to maintain that local Republican Party officers, or those that volunteer with candidates or are involved in conservative groups are the "Establishment". That's not true, because we are not the "authority" nor do we have "power". If we did, wouldn't we have much more "Republican" state laws and principles?

The "Establishment" in real terms, are those people who actually treat politics as an industry/job, and those that are criticized within the Establishment are those that are more concerned with their own paycheck instead of actually advancing Republican principles through legislation. Those are the people who work for politicians and advise politicians and the the media as to what to "expect" in a political race, who/what to vote for, what's "the right thing to do" and who/what to ignore, even when in conflict with Republican principles. They push the narrative of "we/they are doing the best we can" while doing nothing. Those are the lobbyists paid by interests/companies with money to ensure the government passes laws that help them and hurt competitors (or the general population), regardless of the other implications. Those people, at core, think they know politics better than you, and instead of recognizing that you are in charge of politics, they expect you to go along with their narrative, pushed by paid advertising, media attention, and their own personal credibility. They figure that since they've spoken at your local meetings and you know them, you'll trust their judgment, even though their paychecks and connections to elected officials influence their goals away from the ones you hold.

Which leads to to who to vote for on election day on Tuesday in the Republican Primary. As the Republican Primary in Georgia, technically, is akin to an internal party election where we are simply selecting the candidate(s) who Georgia will bind delegates to for the national convention, the Georgia Republican Party set its own, internal rules on how delegates are allocated. As discussed in detail in this earlier message, the State Committee of the Georgia GOP was convinced to vote to set the threshold at 20% to receive any state at-large delegates to the national Republican Party convention. In other words, all of the media talk about "proportional representation" is partially misleading. If the candidate you vote for in Tuesday's primary receives less than 20% of the statewide vote, they will receive ZERO at-large delegates to the national convention (unless, for some reason, no candidate receives over 20% of the vote, then the number drops to 15%). You should definitely vote your conscience, but you should also be aware that your vote may, literally, mean nothing on Tuesday due to internal party rules passed by the GAGOP late last year. And be aware of the current polling data regarding the primary. This, of course, was a measure pushed by the "Establishment" and agreed to by many well-intended people on the State Committee.

Also, as an oversight from the last message regarding the Newton GOP, long-time GOP activist and hard worker Doug Grammer, in addition to Jason Shepherd and others, was also vital in helping to assist with remedying the Newton County GOP injustice. We apologize for the oversight.
