The AAF has released its IdP Installer which will help Identity Providers (IdPs) with setting up, configuring and upgrading their IdPs to Shibboleth V3 in the coming months. The new installer streamlines general maintenance and upgrade work while providing IdPs with:
  • Enhanced Client or Proxy (ECP)
  • simplified branding options
  • a streamlined upgrade path
  • best practice
  • upgrades to the latest version using existing IdP information.
For more information about the IdP Installer and how to get started with your upgrade, view our self-help resources online: The AAF have developed a series of video presentations that will guide you through the process of upgrading your existing IdP Version 2  to the new IdP Version 3. This upgrade uses the AAF IdP Installer to fast track the upgrade and to make future upgrades simpler for organisations.

Discovery Service (DS)

By now you would have seen our new Discovery Service (DS) which was released into production on 28 January 2016. The release of the new DS allows the AAF to evolve its current software infrastructure to meet the diverse needs of stakeholders. By enhancing the AAF’s core services it will extend the capability of the AAF to deliver the next generation of services.

The new DS was designed based on feedback from our subscribers and incorporates international best practice for discovery. The new DS provides:
  • responsive design for mobile and desktop browsers
  • clean, modern interface that places focus on the services and identity providers
  • support for more detailed Identity Provider (IdP) and Service Provider (SP) information provided by the MDUI specification
  • web application architecture using eager caching and asynchronous refreshes to improve response times.
Throughout 2016 the AAF will continue to release additional functionality for the MDUI specifications. This will include additional enhancements, such as:
  • geo-location data, for automatically determining a user's nearest IdP
  • logo display for the initiating SP, and for all IdP
