Niagara Named One of Two Communities for GO Rail Extension in 2016

The Niagara GO working group is thrilled with the 2016 Provincial budget commitment to expand daily GO Train service to Niagara. This is clear commitment from the Province as Niagara was one of only two communities named for GO rail extension.

Statements from the Niagara GO Working Group

“Niagara’s united call for the expansion of GO Rail service to Niagara Region has been answered. We thank the Ontario government and Minister Del Duca for recognizing the merits of our strong business case. This important transit project will bring new jobs and investment to our region and foster an environment for economic prosperity in Niagara and across the GTHA.”

  • Alan Caslin, Niagara Regional Chair

“I am excited that for the first time ever, an Ontario budget has highlighted the extension of the GO rail year-round network to Niagara. This is a positive first step, and we eagerly anticipate the details regarding the timing of announcing this extension all the way to Niagara Falls very soon.”

  • Jim Diodati, Mayor, City of Niagara Falls

“GO rail expansion to Niagara has been our number one ask of the Province. We are very pleased that the provincial government has outlined Niagara as one of two GO expansion areas in the 2016 budget. We look forward to learning further details in the near future as this project is crucial to grow Niagara’s economy.”

  • Walter Sendzik, Mayor, City of St. Catharines
