Greetings! We're nearly 3 months into 2016 and the year holds a big change for the Blaha family.  Rich's job as a research scientist (he has worked at the same company since 1994!) has ended as the company is closing its Oregon office.  We'll have exciting news to share within a few weeks about Rich's new direction (which won't affect the farm), but in the meantime, it's beef ordering time!  As our loyal customers, we wanted to give you the first chance to place beef orders for this year... more on that below.
 

All the Beef: Update and Summer Share Ordering...


We currently have 6 steers, 3 Angus cross which will be butchered this summer, and 3 young Jersey steers which we'll be offering next summer (along with more Angus).  Beef prices have still been on an upswing, so we decided to raise a few Jerseys for next year since the Angus have been increasingly expensive to procure. 

What does this mean for our customers?  We'll be offering our Premium Summer beef shares this year for $4.95/lb, a small increase from last year's prices.  We are giving you the first chance at ordering.  We are offering 1 fewer animal for sale this year than last, so we expect to fill reservations quickly, but we are still offering our early reservation discount.  We'll take $25 off the first 3 orders received.  If you would like a share of the summer beef, please do the following:
  1. email us at info@mossbackfarm.com (email is always best for us!) or call and leave a message on Val's cell at 971 237 7576. Let us know your quantity (quarter or half share).
  2. wait for us to confirm availability for you (should be within a day or two at most), and then send in your $150/quarter deposit.
We will mostly likely be offering more shares of the Neighborly beef this year as well, so if you are interested in that, please let us know the quantity you are looking for, as well as when you'd want it (early spring, early fall, late fall).

fyi: We generally take reservations in the order received, with extra priority for long-time customers.  We'll hold the reservation for ~2 weeks while we wait for your deposit.  Deposits are refundable until April 15th (~60 days before the estimated butcher date of 6/15/16)... after that deposit refunds are subject to us finding an alternate buyer for your share in time for butchering in June.  Deposits are applied in full toward your balance due.

Mossback Music!!!


If you are looking for music at a great wine bar or restaurant, check out Val's music website.  Val performs on a regular basis playing her country/folk original tunes.  She's also been performing as part of the duo Luminous Heart. Next up, she'll be playing at the Horse Radish in Carlton on Friday March 11th...you can find all of her current dates on her website, as well as links to her music for download.  

Val is available for booking for events such as house concerts, private parties, political fundraisers, etc.  She can perform solo, or as part of a duo, trio, or full band, depending on your event. Mossback Farm Website Redesign... coming soon!


We are pretty proud that we have one of the longest running farm blogs online... we've had ours up since ~2001.  But it's been several years since we last redesigned the site, and we've not been super great about updating and posting to the site.  (We might have to blame Facebook for making us lazy about that!)  Val's taking on the task of redoing this site this winter, so if you have any suggestions or things that would be helpful, drop her a line at val@mossbackfarm.com!
