PondNet - call for volunteers

The Freshwater Habitats Trust's PondNet Project is looking for Volunteers to survey Ponds in the region. Alongside this they have some amphibian training sessions for willing volunteers (please see poster below)! You can also find our where the available survey sites are in Cumbria here. Please contact Anne Heathcote (Project Officer for Northern England) on aheathcote@freshwaterhabitats.org.uk for more info and to sign up.

Deborah (Deb) Muscat - CBDC Manager

Deb joined CBDC in January 2016 and has settled in well, already making a very positive impact on the centre. She brings with her a wide experience of working in the charitable sector which includes advising and training Trustees as well as managing her own teams of staff and volunteers.  Deb has been a successful fundraiser as well as a grant maker.  After the floods of 2009 Deb was awarded Cumbria Woman of the Year 2010 recognising her ability to manage complex projects and work with people at all levels to improve the lives of Cumbrian communities. Deb has a life long commitment to environmental conservation and gained an MSc in Biological Recording in 2010.

Deb can be contacted on manager@cbdc.org.uk or 01228 618732

Recording Days 2016

We hope you'll be pleased to hear that we're planning another 4 CBDC Recording Days in the county this summer. Final locations and dates will soon be released but we'd to give a late opportunity for recorders to suggest any area of private land in the county that you believe has good wildlife habitat and is accessible (apart from being private!). Ideally the area should have SSSI status or be a designated local wildlife site but this is not essential for consideration. Please contact Recording Officer, Gary Hedges (recordingofficer@cbdc.org.uk) if you have any suggestions.

CBDC Occasional Publication

From time to time, we hope to publish short reports from the local recording community on personal or group projects related to biodiversity and recording in Cumbria on our website: www.cbdc.org.uk/data/Publications. This can include county inventories and checklists that can be updated or write-ups of local studies on individual species/groups/habitats etc. Through these, CBDC aim to further increase the biodiversity information available for Cumbria and promote the work of it's dedicated recording community. The first such report, now downloadable from our website, is titled 'Inventory of Urban Gull Colonies in Cumbria' by Robin Sellers. If you wish to contribute a document to be considered for publication on the CBDC website, please contact Recording Officer, Gary Hedges (recordingofficer@cbdc.org.uk).
