A Captain-Only

44' Voyage Catamaran, 2002

For people looking to economize, the 44' Voyage Catamaran, MARVYN, is available on a captain only basis, so guests do their own cooking, and the weekly price includes all the ship's operating costs, except food and beverages.  Guests arrive and shop for groceries (or order ahead), then the yacht pulls out from the dock and the captain sets sail for BVI ports of call, where you anchor off the beaches and and take the dinghy in to restaurants ashore, or you can cook a meal onboard.  For restaurant-goers, a captain-only charter is ideal, because you don't have to pay for your meals twice - once aboard and a second time ashore!

Yet guests on MARVYN get the same experience as on a fully crewed, all inclusive charter vessel except the food service.  You see the same cruising ground as on a crewed charter; you use the yacht's sports equipment; you get the same service that the captain on a fully crewed vessel provides - that is, knowledge of the cruising ground, transit to all the islands, somebody to sail the boat safely, and somebody to lead you in fun activities every day.  Captains give their guests options of what to do at each port, so your yacht becomes your home to take where and when you please, and there is always something new and different to do and see each day.

And it's fun to act as crew.  It's fun to get involved in the running of the boat and the sailing of the ship. The captain will help you get acclimated to the galley; he will tell you where you can pick up provisions along the way. He can tell you where the best restaurants are; he knows which ones serve what and what the various prices are.  If guests make meals aboard, it is expected that guests cook for the captain as well, but the captain will offer to cook a few meals for guests, and he will help with the washing up.  The captain will not expect to dine ashore with you.  The yacht will be delivered to you with fuel and water tanks topped up, ready to go.   MARVYN's captain-only price is all inclusive except for food and beverages.

MARVYN is ideal for three couples, as she has three equal guest cabins, each with Queen berth and private ensuite bathroom.  But she can also accommodate families and loves to do so!  Kevin Goodrich is smart, 49-years old, and American.  He is a trained medical doctor, and "technologist," but he took jobs in faraway places like Tibet and Cuba, because he's an adventurer at heart. Recently, he returned to his lifelong love of sailing, which started when he was a scout and continued in college and again after college....  Kevin has degree after degree and is easy to talk to.

Although Kevin loves it when guests help with the sailing, Kevin says MARVYN is easy to sail by himself.  He installed the new electronics aboard, so he rigged a way to steer the boat from his phone! The yacht's onboard Wifi is phone-operated, as is the compass course and when to tack....  He does ask guests to help trim the sheets, because it is fun to learn to sail, and he does teach sailing, of course.

The name of the yacht, MarVyn, is an amalgamation of the owner's children's names, meaning 'sea friends.'   MARVYN was launched in 2002 without a generator.  One was installed in 2012, so the yacht is now fully air conditioned, but the yacht does not have amenities such as a water maker aboard, for instance, so guests have to use fresh water sparingly.  Or else you'll have to go into a marina and buy more. MARVYN carries a 10' inflatable dinghy with 15 hp outboard, snorkeling gear and two stand up paddle boards, and Kevin has a wealth of knowledge about the sea and how to enjoy the sea and its activities that don't require any further sports equipment beyond what the vessel has already got. MARVYN sails year round from St. Thomas.
