Hi <<First Name>>,
We've been working hard to deliver the best world for animals. Last month, we took part in workshops to inform new regulations around the treatment of bobby calves. We also achieved justice for seven abandoned kittens, rehabilitated a cat who had a battle with rush hour traffic, and announced a partnership that will help us feed more SPCA animals around the country.
Keep reading to find out how you can help more animals in need.

Have your say on bobby calves in April
In response to the mistreatment of bobby calves revealed in November, the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) invited the SPCA to contribute to new regulatory proposals for the dairy industry. We attended two workshops, along with industry representatives, farmers, transporters, and animal advocacy groups SAFE and Farmwatch.
Public submissions open in April and we'll be in touch to let you know how you can have your say.

Abandoning kittens a cowardly act
In February, we achieved justice for an adult cat and seven kittens who were abandoned when their owner moved out of her home. They were discovered and rescued by an SPCA Inspector almost a month later.
Pauline Hura, 59, was convicted of deserting eight cats in circumstances in which no provision was made to meet their physical, health and behavioural needs.
She was sentenced to 120 hours community service, disqualified from owning animals for 2 years, and ordered to pay $157.03 in reparations and $200 towards legal fees.

Cruz seeks an outdoor type for adventures
Meet Cruz, a three-year-old Greyhound cross who has been at the SPCA Auckland Animal Village for 11 long months.
Cruz loves long walks, tummy rubs, curling up in her pile of blankets, chewing on her favourite toy and doing laps around the paddock. She would make the perfect companion for an active person with previous dog experience.
If you're looking for an outgoing and affectionate dog with loads of personality, contact SPCA Auckland on (09) 256 7309, or head along to meet Cruz this weekend.

A happy ending for Lazarus the cat
Lazarus, a long-haired ginger cat, had tried to cross the road in rush hour traffic when he was hit by a passing car.
SPCA Otago rushed him to the nearby Humanimals Veterinary Clinic, but the outlook was grim. Lazarus had a broken jaw, a fractured tibia and a damaged pelvis. The vet gave the SPCA two options – euthanise him, or start a series of expensive operations at a cost of $2,000.
Otago supporters came to the rescue, donating more than $2,200 to cover the cost of the surgery and help with post-operative care. Lazarus had his jaw wired and is recovering well with a splinted support dressing on his leg.
He now faces a long road of rehabilitation, but we're very happy to report that Lazarus has found a new home on the Otago Peninsula – far away from busy roads.

Billy the kid gets a second chance at life
In November, SPCA Canterbury were called to rescue a stray Saneen goat. He was only a few weeks old and without his mother.
‘Billy the kid’ required around the clock care, a special diet and regular feedings. SPCA staff fostered him to ensure his needs were met day and night. Billy loved the company of humans and animals at the Animal Centre.
When the sweet, playful, little goat went up for adoption in January, he found his new home after only a few days. Can you help give an animal like Billy a second chance at life?
