d.tech families:

Recently d.tech students have been working on creating their vision for Design Tech High School. Each @d.tech class voted on their favorite vision statements which have been posted throughout the school.  As you can see by the pictures, the students want to build a school  that combines achievement and empathy.  In addition to the visions you see above, students see d.tech as: a community of students and teachers gearing up to change the world, a place that is not perfect but our imperfections drive us to succeed, and the best school in the world.  Not only do students want to do great things, but they want to make sure we are all looking out for each other.  As part of the process, they also created “post cards” of what they would see happening at the school once we’ve realized the vision.  These were things such as “people saying nice things to one another,” “amazing creations displayed on campus,” “students staying on pace without being asked,” and “apologizing for mistakes.”

Also as part of the process, I shared with students our school mission, and my vision for d.tech.

Mission: to develop students who believe that the world can be a better place and they can be the ones to make it happen.

Vision: d.tech is a place for students and staff to flourish (grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment).

We are now in the next stage of the process which involves supporting each other in making the vision real and holding each other accountable when mistakes are made.

I encourage you all to talk to your son/daughter about his/her vision for d.tech.  It’s also an activity that students can do for themselves.

Two sentences to describe who you want to be:  (Start by thinking of adjectives and words that provoke images).

Create the Postcard: Identify three specific things that you see happening if the vision were real.

Build Efficacy: What is your role in making the vision real?

Complete this sentence: I am a person who...

Have a great week,

Ken

2016-17 d.tech Re-enrollment Deadline is Friday, February 26

By now, parents should have received an email titled  “Design Tech High School RE-ENROLLMENT Packet.2.”  If you did not receive it, please search your spam folder. The email provides the re-enrollment link to SchoolMint and personal access code to complete the process online.

1. Go to dtechhs.schoolmint.net
2  Complete the sign in process. Look for the sentence that begins with “If you have an access code… go here”
4. Click on ‘go here’
5. Enter your access code
6. Review your family’s information and update/complete as needed.

The deadline to reenroll is Friday, February 26. After this date, open spots will be made available for applicants in the lottery. If you have technical difficulties reenrolling, please email support@schoolmint.com and copy jabraham@dtechhs.org.

Athletic Competition Health Forms: Only needed for students who engage in d.tech athletics competition. Not handing them in by February 26 WILL NOT prevent your student from reenrolling. Some families may not be able to get a physician’s appointment before February 26. However, we strongly encourage families of athletic participants to complete these three forms as soon as feasible and before the summer. Once the forms are signed/completed by your physician and signed by a parent, turn in all three forms to the Front Office.

File your forms before summer for efficient processing of your application. After June, the 2020 class enrollment will markedly increase the processing volume for the staff. Thank you for your support and patience.

Supplies Wish list

  • copy paper
  • index cards
  • expo dry erase markers
Please drop off any donations to the Front Office. It’s much appreciated.

Potential Release of Student Personal Data

San Diego NBC 7 News reported on February 11: “Millions of public school students will soon have their personal information and school records handed over to a nonprofit community organization.

“The Concerned Parents Association fought for the data in federal district court and won over the objections of the California Department of Education.

SDUSD Alerts Parents to Student Info Release
The nonprofit said it needs the information to see if California schools are violating the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and other related laws. The database it will have access to includes all information on children, kindergarten through high school, who are attending or have attended a California school at any time since Jan. 1, 2008.

“The database contain students' names, social security numbers, home addresses, course information, behavior and discipline information, progress reports, mental health and medical information, along with suspensions, expulsions and more.”

d.tech takes no position on this matter but is only informing the parent community of this development. If you object to the release of this data, you can fill out the Objection to Disclosure of Student Record form and mail via USPS to arrive by April 1, 2016.
