Research highlights need for long-term rabbit biocontrol strategy

The importance of a long term rabbit biocontrol strategy is clear with a recent study showing a number of Australian threatened small mammals making a comeback in the South Australian desert due to ongoing rabbit management, including biocontrol.

Inquiry: Barrier Fences in Queensland

The Qld parliamentary Agriculture & Environment Committee has invited written submissions to an Inquiry into the management, effectiveness & impacts of (dog & rabbit) barrier fences in Queensland. Submissions close this Monday 29 Feb!

20th Australasian Weeds Conference: call for abstracts now open

The 20th Australian Weeds Conference will be held 11-15 September 2016 in Perth, Western Australia. Submission of abstracts is invited by potential presenters by Monday 21 March.

Accidentally or deliberately introduced species are the second most common threat associated with recent global extinctions of animals and plants, a new study from the University of Adelaide and UCL, in the UK, has found.

USA: Framework to Safeguard the Nation’s Lands and Waters from Invasive Species

The report Safeguarding America’s Lands and Waters from Invasive Species: A National Framework for Early Detection and Rapid Response has been released by the US Department of the Interior.

Tiger bones, rhino horns & dna forensic analysis

IA CRC PhD student Elodie Modave recently spent five weeks at the Australian Museum in Sydney as part of her Balanced Researcher Program Industry Placement. Elodie worked on two forensic DNA projects focused on tigers and rhinos, related to the illegal wildlife trade.

Conservation through the sustainable use of wildlife: call for abstracts

Hosted by the University of Queensland, the Conservation through Sustainable Use of Wildlife Conference will be held from 30 August - 1 September 2016 in Brisbane. Abstracts are invited by 7 March 2016.
