SCOPE Learning Congress
The Safer Care for Older Persons (in residential) Environments project examines the effectiveness of empowering health care aides to take the lead on improvement strategies within the long-term care setting. As part of this project, quality improvement teams consisting of various facility staff led by care aides attend several Learning Congresses throughout the year. The first Learning Congress was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 8th-9th with a great turn-out! Quality improvement teams from all seven intervention facilities participated in the two-day event, along with regional decision makers, quality advisors, and researchers.
The teams had an opportunity to learn about the quality improvement model, three areas of improvement (resident pain, behavior and mobility), and network with other teams. Afterwards, the team selected one of three areas of improvement to work on in their facilities during the first Action Period, where they plan and test small changes in their selected areas. At the congress facility leaders, such as Directors of Care and Administrators discussed and shared strategies on how to support the quality improvement teams in their facilities.
