I just got back from a mini-vacation to Florida where I was off the grid for a few days.
No computer. No checking social media. No consuming or creating content. Just being present and one with my thoughts.
You can see the video I shot of the moment I decided this by clicking on the image below.
This was the first time in a year that I unplugged.
For someone who’s a hustler that lives in the digital media space this is not easy. There’s always more to be done, more to be learned, more to be created.
The hardest thing for me was not sending out this email like I do every Monday morning. Trust me, I contemplated writing it on my iPhone. I certainly had the time.
I decided to go off the grid because sometimes you need to take a step back to reflect before you can take a few steps forward.
I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity it brought and the positives that came from it.
I didn’t feel the urge to check the latest social media update because I couldn’t. Instead I thought about my goals, what I could improve on, and what I could do less of.
Because sometimes more isn’t better. Less of the right thing is better.
I challenge you in the next week to create your own version of unplugging, even if just for 10 minutes. Use this time to just think. Do nothing else.
When you do let me know how it goes (reply to this email or drop me a line on social media.) It worked wonders for me and I’m guessing it’ll do the same for you.
Cheers.
