The Prodigal Son Dances: DWDr
Howdy FDFs,
Yeah, I know. It’s been awhile. But… but I was abducted by Amazonian aliens from the planet Equalitaria, who wanted me to teach them our strange Terran customs and mating rites… Not buying it? Okay, how about, I was dancing so hard one night that the combination of the music, the heat of the venue and my own perspiration opened a portal into a strange land where music and dance were illegal and I’ve only just now found my way home. Still not plausible… okay here’s the mundane truth, too much work and not enough time makes a DWDr pretty nigh impossible. But with the approach of Spring and the fact that the entertainment industry’s pantheon to asininity (AKA awards season) has finally been driven back into its lair to hibernate for a few blessed months, I can finally breathe and resume my duties of brining you a list of dance opportunities.
 I see that much has happened in my absence as a few venues have been lost to us (Culver Hotel, the Hacienda, etc). But we’ll soldier on and if you have any news of new places that you don’t see on my list, please let me know. That said, I still have a lot of information about places where you can get ready for the summer by working it out on a dance floor. And if you see a band you're not familiar with, click on the link to check out a video of them in action that I added, if one was available. But if you're looking for a place to dance then please come out next Sunday to the 2016 Season opener for the Third Street Potluck Dance Party on Sunday, March 13th, which should make up for the outdoor dance in Culver City originally scheduled for Sunday March 6 but was canceled. Come out and dance with us and show the world we still got moves.
I hope to be able to maintain this list on a regular basis going forward through the summer, but I’ll try to at least keep a month’s worth of stuff for you to peruse should you have a free evening, an itch to dance and nowhere in mind to scratch it.
Thanks for hanging in there during my absence amongst the Bluesarian tribe of Gallifrey who really wanted to make me their ruler but I had to come home… Still not buying it? Okay, at any rate, here are a few places where you can go put a spring in your step and get ready for Spring from Friday, March 4, through Saturday, April 2, 2016. I still haven’t given up on this. After a couple of years of being passed over, those of you looking for some swing/blues love at our city’s wonderful Dance Downtown series, I created an online petition to help us collect enough signatures so that maybe they will hear us this year. If you can, take a moment to sign it and share it with your fellow dance fans and let’s get some swing/blues music this year. We tried last year but barely got 200 signatures. But we’re closer to 300 now.
