March 8: Screening of CODE - Debugging the Gender Gap

Women Who Launch and CFE will be hosting a screening of CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap, which examines why more girls and people of color are not seeking opportunities in computer science. It explores how cultural mindsets, stereotypes, educational hurdles and sexism all play roles in this national crisis. This will be in celebration of International Women's Day, and food will be provided! Register here

March 10: Intellectual Property 101- Protect What's Yours

CFE and SWE joined together to bring you our new lecture series - Empowering Women Through Entrepreneurship. This series will go over topics in entrepreneurship and its power in tackling the challenges of gender inequality. Our first seminar, Intellectual Property 101, will go over the basics of intellectual property and innovation protection. You will also learn how to personally, professionally and economically benefit from your creations. We encourage women and men to attend!


March 11: eHour, Inder Singh

Inder Singh is the founder and CEO of Kinsa and a former wolverine, who graduated magna cum laude with an Economics and Engineering Degree. Kinsa is revolutionizing health by creating the world's first real-time map of health to track and stop the spread of illness. Its first product is an ultra-low-cost smartphone-connected thermometer. It will take a temperature and through the mobile app, allow you to compare symptoms to "what's going around" in the local area, seek advice from a medical professional, and immediate care, and keep records of health issues. The products also provide anonymous geo-located data on fever, symptoms and illness to map health.

March 14: Lunch & Learn - Meet a Patent Examiner

Join the CFE and Michigan Libraries for a lunch and learn with Victoria Shumate, Patent Examiner from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mike Rhodin is Senior Vice President for Watson, one of IBM’s most significant innovations in the company’s 100-year history.  Watson is charged with accelerating a new class of software, services and apps that think, learn and will fuel a diverse cloud-based ecosystem of enterprises, tech companies and entrepreneurs. Before heading up Watson, Mike led the Software Solutions Group delivering industry-specific solutions in high-growth areas such as Business Analytics, Smarter Commerce, Smarter Cities and Social Business. Mike joined IBM in 1984 after he graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Kickstarter Project Promises the Impossible

LMcable, a recent Kickstarter campaign, promises to deliver the world's first cable containing a 2-in 1 connector that can work on both micro USB and lightning ports - that's right, an iPhone and Android charger in one. The creators went looking only for $3,582, but the project has collected $100,000+. Read more here.
