Opportunities for input...

are on the calendar this month! Local citizens interested in active transportation options in Salem can support the development of safe walking and bicycling spaces by participating in the following ways:

* Info. Meeting – Downtown Bike Lanes
Thursday, March 17th, 4–6 p.m.
Senator Hearing Room - Courthouse Square Transit Mall
555 Court Street NE

The City of Salem plans to add bike lanes to Church Street and High Street in downtown Salem. They hope that bicycle lanes on these streets will create better bicycle connectivity to and through downtown. The current outlined design offers bike lanes painted between automobile parking and traffic lanes.

Outlined in the Central Salem  Mobility Study, the project is scheduled for construction during summer 2016. Stop by to learn about this upcoming project and share what infrastructure designs might help you feel comfortable walking and bicycling downtown.

Possible questions/concerns:
1) Is it possible to have protected bike lanes?
2) If the protected bike lanes are not feasible, is it possible to improve the buffered bike lane design with more buffer space and/or use of texturing to indicate separation?
3) Can the car lanes be designed to follow the 11 ft standard?

The City is interested in hearing your opinion on these options.
SBBA wants the “interested but concerned” rider to be heard, and thus served. If you can’t make the Open House, comments can be emailed directly to Project Manager Julie Titchbourne at jtitchbourne@cityofsalem.net

* Open House - Plans for Highway 22 (Mission Street) in Salem near I-5
Wednesday, March 30th, 4-6:30pm Fire Station Number 6
2742 25th Street SE (next to the Salem Airport)

The City of Salem and ODOT are working to assess existing and future transportation operations and safety conditions on OR 22 (Mission Street SE) between 25th Street SE and Gaffin Road SE in Salem. The plan will identify potential improvements along the corridor, including an interchange at Cordon Road. Attend this open house to learn about this upcoming project and share what infrastructure designs you believe will help make space for active transportation. Comments and questions can also be sent to Project Manager Dan Fricke at Daniel.L.FRICKE@odot.state.or.us
