Yellow Lines Painted on Leaf Lane (Whitley)
Last week Roger witnessed the results of his year’s campaigning, as double yellow lines were painted along Leaf Lane from the sports complex & IBIS Hotel up to the island of the JLR site.

Work was hampered by parked cars, so it’s being painted in sections. A small number of parking spaces have been included on alternative sides of the road to discourage speeding traffic. During his visits Roger was able to influence a reduction of these parking spaces as he felt that some were too close to the bend.

Phase 2 is to be a consultation for additional yellow lines around the bottom half of the Whitley Estate.

Manor Park School – Irresponsible Parking
We continue to receive reports of irresponsible parking outside Manor Park School, in Ulvercroft Road. Mark and Roger have been monitoring the situation and the Police have been out a few times talking to parents and the head teacher. At Roger’s request, Coventry City Council’s camera car has been visiting the area as can be seen here in Mark’s video. As a consequence several fines have issued .

New Cabinets on Leaf Lane?
A resident raised questions about the new boxes and mast recently installed at the top of Leaf Lane and wondered if they needed to be fenced off.

Hazel queried this and had it confirmed that the telecommunications equipment cabinets are no more dangerous than any other equipment cabinets and consequently additional fencing is generally considered unnecessary, unless they are subject to regular vandalism.

The mast and equipment cabinets were granted prior approval by the Planning Committee a number of years ago.

Telecommunications and technological advancement over the years has led to the increase in cabinets and the sharing of masts in order to cope with the increasing demand.

Southport Close Left Untidy After Gas Works Completed
A resident contact Belfour Beatty in regards to the poor condition of the grass areas after work had been carried out by them.
Reply from Alexandra Austin Customer Advisor, Balfour Beatty, Services, Gas & Water

Apologise for the lack of information in my previous email. The site manager had confirmed with me that the site had been tidied. In the email I did not mention that we will be returning to seed the grass areas that have been disturbed by the Mains Replacement Work.
As advised in my previous email, the mess on the pavements will improve once it has rained. If the mess still remains after it has rained then the team are more than happy to return to jet wash the pavements.
The site manager has also confirmed to improve the state of the car park, we will be putting some gravel down.

Warwick Road Lane Closures for Station Tunnel Construction
From 29th March one lane will be shut in each direction of Warwick Road for the construction of a new 6 x 24 metre access tunnel under Warwick Road near Central Six shopping complex.

Read the Council's report and the Coventry Observer's report on the project.

Forester's Road Pavement Resurfacing
A section of pavement adjacent to numbers 19 – 32 Forester's Road will be resurfaced with tarmac, edging  kerbs will be installed to soft landscaping and bollards will be installed. Work is due to start in early April and take up to 3 weeks to complete.

Feeding the Ducks?
A resident has asked why there are signs at Quinton pools asking for people not to feed bread to the ducks and swans. Hazel chased this up and discovered that ducks & swans can go down with ‘Bread Belly’ which is harmful.

Takeaways, salads, chips etc. are also being dumped of the grass around the pool, which attracts vermin like rats who just love it!!!!

The council does encourage residents to feed them with suitable duck food which can be bought from a nearby pet shop on Daventry Road. Many aquatic wild fowl are omnivores just like us and need a mixture of greens, meat (usually water snails and leeches) and complex carbohydrates like seeds and grains. Processed carbs like bread are harmful to them, however a good quality wholemeal bread is a lesser evil.

Wild birds filled up by bread means that they don’t forage which prevents them from having a balanced diet. There are some sites where the council are considering putting up ‘No feeding’ signs as the amount of food left is becoming a real issue. Quinton and Swanswell Pools are currently being considered for these signs.

London Road - Increased Parking Petition
Mark and Roger met some London Road residents, to collect their petition for “Increased Parking on the Service Slip Road – London Road, Whitley”. 32 residents had signed it; they are asking for an increase in parking provision on the service slip road outside the houses on London Road.
This petition has now been processed by Coventry City Council and will be looked at in due course.

A major national advertising campaign has been launched across England to encourage voter registration ahead of local government and Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) elections in May.

Registering now for the elections in May will also mean voters are registered in good time before the referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union on 23 June.

Stop Nuisance Phone Calls Scam?
We have been alerted to a scam by a resident who received a phone call claiming that they were the Telephone Monitoring Service. The resident was asked if they’d been receiving nuisance phone calls and then their name and address was checked. The caller then asked for visa card details to register for the service. Luckily the resident said “No, we do not give out details.
