Could you give one of our rabbits a second chance?

It’s not just cats and dogs at WAW, we have lots of rabbits. Unfortunately Rabbits are one of the most neglected pets in the UK, as they often suffer in silence.
A lot or rabbits are bought on a whim or as a gift for child, without the realisation of what looking after a rabbit properly entails!  Sadly we a have large number of rabbits currently looking for a new home, check them out on our website.

Before you start the adoption process you should research rabbit's needs and be sure that you can provide the care, time and money they require.  Consider their housing, rabbits can live inside or outside, but wherever your rabbit lives it will need lots of space and to be safe and secure.

Here is Danno, one of our rescues who is now in a bonded pair with Millie.  He is now living happily in his new home.  He has a dry place to sleep and lots of space both inside and outside to exercise and play!

WAW Bunny Village –  we need your help!

Due to the sudden influx of abandoned and surrendered rabbits, we are urgently trying to raise much needed funds to develop our rabbit accommodation.  Read on to find out how you can make a donation to WAW.
Or visit our JustGiving page.

Hope Kennels update...

Since the Kennels have opened we have not had an empty kennel. We have been able to help and rehome lots more dogs, such as these guys (featured in our last newsletter) who have now all found their forever homes.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP to finish the project and build a much needed all weather dog exercise and greeting area – we need to raise lots more money!  If you would like to make a donation to WAW to help with our projects and campaigns you can do this in a number of ways:
  • Text: Text NEUT29 (plus the amount) e.g. NEUT29 £20 to 70070
  • WAW Just Giving page - which is really easy - you can set up a regular donation or make a one off donation!
  • Direct Debit: Set up a regular or a one off Direct Debit (Sort Code 60 20 29  /  A/c Number 50246798  /  Bank: Natwest)
  • Donation Button: On our website & Facebook
  • Legacy: if you would like to remember WAW and the animals in your will, please contact us or check out our website for more information.

Microchip your dog - IT'S GOING TO BE THE LAW!

It will be compulsory for all dogs over the age of eight weeks to be fitted with microchips from 6 April 2016. It is estimated that almost two million dogs are still to undergo the procedure.  We are holding the following event:
Check out our Facebook page for details of other local micro-chipping events.  Also visit the Dogs Trust site www.chipmydog.org.uk for information on getting your dog chipped for free.

So don’t delay and get it done today!  A microchip will makes it much easier to reunite you with your dog if it goes missing.  Micro-chipping will reduce the burden on animal charities and local authorities and help protect the welfare of dogs by promoting responsible dog ownership.  If you have a dog without a microchip which comes to the attention of the authorities, you may face criminal prosecution and a £500 fine!

Dave & Dennis finally went home!

Christmas came early for long term WAW residents, Dave and Dennis, who finally found their forever home in December with Deb and Alan!

It was an emotional day for everyone at WAW when they finally left, but everyone was happy to see them go to a loving home.  Everyone still misses their cheeky ways, but it was a relief to know that they would not have been spending their second year without a home!
There are lots of lovely dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs still looking for a home - keep checking our Facebook and website.

Want to get involved?

It costs thousands of pounds a year to run WAW and help the animals of Warrington and the surrounding areas.  We need people to help us and to help raise money so we can continue – here is how you could get involved (contact us for more info or check out the Get Involved section on our website):

WAW Sponsorship...
Sponsor WAW from just £2 a month or £24 a year.  As part of your sponsorship you will receive a special quarterly update newsletters by email about our animals. You will also receive a sponsorship certificate from us, making it the perfect Birthday or Christmas gift for any cat lover.  If you're interested in sponsoring WAW and helping care for our animals, then you can sign visit our centre and fill in a sponsorship form or visit www.warringtonanimalwelfare.co.uk/sponsorship

Gift Donations...
To help us continue our fundraising efforts, we always need donations of items and gifts that we can use as prizes in our tombola’s or raffles. Do you have any unwanted gifts you could donate or items we could use as raffle prizes?  Just drop them off at the centre.

Collection Box or Tin...
Could you put a donations tin at your work? If so, please contact our centre and we can arrange to have one dropped off.  Or, could you put a large box in your office to encourage your colleagues to drop in unwanted gifts for our tombola’s? We have done this at a few workplaces and it works really well and is a way for people to donate without spending a penny.  Like XPO Logistics in Woolston.

Sponsored Event...
Fancy running a marathon on behalf of Warrington Animal Welfare? Or maybe you are a fantastic baker and want to hold a bake sale? Or are you giving up wine for a month and want to raise money for WAW’s animals in the process? You can create your personal sponsorship page and link to us on our JustGiving page. We will promote your event on our Facebook page to our 16,000 followers if you do!

Volunteering...
We are mainly volunteer run, operating a rehoming centre 7 days a week, running neutering campaigns and fostering and rehoming many different animals from dogs and cats to rabbits, guinea pigs and cockerels.

If you could give even just a few hours a month to volunteer for WAW then please get in touch. At the centre, we have volunteers who help with cleaning and caring for the animals, walking dogs or aiding with socialising nervous pets who are looking for homes.

We also urgently need volunteers to help with fundraising – this could mean collecting at stalls or events, or helping out at events we organise such as sponsored walks or dog shows.  Also, if you are a dab hand at admin we always needs volunteers to help us handle queries and calls, and to keep our website updated!

Find out more about how you can get involved on our website.

Animals up for adoption...

Here are just a few of our animals looking for their new forever homes.

Dog visits are by appointment only. Not all the dogs are at the centre, some are in foster care etc.

Please note that some animals will have gone to their forever homes by the time you read this, but sadly there is always someone else to take their place!
Lots more info and animals on our website

Our Campaigns: Neutering & Animal Welfare

At Warrington Animal Welfare, we don’t just have our rehoming centre – there is also a lot of work behind the scenes and on animal welfare campaigns that goes on too.  You might see our volunteers in the community at shops and events raising awareness about animal welfare issues or neutering campaigns.  As well as helping animals like little Stig (pictured) who was dumped on a fly-tipping site.

Warrington Animal Welfare run regular campaigns focused on low cost neutering, microchipping and promoting better animal welfare across Warrington.

We have volunteers who have been hitting the pavement and knocking on doors over the past few months, delivering leaflets and talking to Warrington residents who need support about how they can access low cost neutering for their pets.

Our team also work with local housing associations to attend pet awareness events to promote better pet care in communities – offering low cost neutering support and advice.  This is critical work as just one unneutered female cat can go on to have 12 kittens every year. Left unneutered, over 6 years that can produce over 60,000 kittens!

Find out more about neutering and our low cost neutering on our website.

Without promoting neutering, we cannot solve the problems of stray and abandoned animals.
