My KuhTube is an online community where dairy farmers in Germany post clips showing the reality of day-to-day life on the farm. The idea is to show consumers how the milk they drink is actually produced. The videos have had 350,000 hits since 2013. Read on.

The Subgroup on Innovation for agricultural productivity and sustainability met on 18 February. They discussed how the EIP-AGRI network can support Operational Groups. They also gathered ideas for synergies between the EU rural networks, and how best to use EIP-AGRI Focus Group results. See the event’s webpage.

The EIP-AGRI Focus Group on Ecological Focus Areas looked specifically at how landscape features such as field margins, hedgerows and grassy or flower strips can contribute to the profitability of arable crop production. They also considered other direct economic effects (production of wood, grass) and non-market benefits (aesthetics, social value). Read the final report.

Farmers, foresters, advisers, researchers, entrepreneurs, we are looking for participants to attend the EIP-AGRI seminar ‘Data revolution: emerging new business models in the agri-food sector’ organised by the European Commission. EUVRIN, a new European Network for research and innovation in vegetables, held its kick-off meeting on 1 February. It is an informal, voluntary organisation of research institutes which specialise in research, development, and extension in the vegetable production sector. EUVRIN is open for new members. The ERANET SUMFOREST has announced that it will publish a new call on 21 March 2016, with pre-registration of project proposals on the platform before 20 May strongly recommended. The call will focus on research that aims to support policy decisions regarding multifunctional forestry. Keep an eye out for information on the call page.

You have until 19 April 2016 to send in applications to the 2016 Joint Call on 'Sustainable management of water resources in agriculture, forestry and freshwater aquaculture sectors' funded under WaterWorks2015 (Water JPI and FACCE JPI).
