Welcome to this week’s e-news.
This week has been extremely busy for Leanne and I. It was the deadline date for applications to our CENE 2016 Awards on Monday and what a response we had! We would like to thank all those who have entered this year’s awards and the judging process will begin shortly with the shortlist being announced at the beginning of April.
On Monday we supported NAWIC North East at their 4th Anniversary Networking Celebration at The Bridge Tavern in Newcastle. It was great to meet up with some new people as well as hear about what the NAWIC North East has coming up over the next few months. If you would like to get more involved in NAWIC please contact me for further details.
On Wednesday we attended the County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Open Day at their new training centre in Bowburn. There were some great presentations on fire risks and some on fire safety products from some of those exhibiting too along with Tyco’s truck. There were also tours around of the training facility which was most interesting as they have some amazing kit. If you would like further information on their training courses such as NEBOSH, ILM and more please let Leanne know and she will point you in the right direction.
This morning we held the ‘Construction Legal Update’ in conjunction with DAC Beachcroft at the Wynyard Rooms in Teesside. It was a great turnout and I would like to thank Roddy Gordon, Warren Kemp and Vikki Pounder for their very informative presentations. Each of their presentations covered Payments, Extensions of Time and Loss & Expense. If you were unable to attend but would like to see further seminars please let us know.
Tomorrow is a busy day with Leanne and I heading off to Leeds to attend the G4C Yorkshire & Humber Awards at the Leeds Armouries but before that at 12.30pm it is First Friday Club with Watson Burton at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. There are still a few places remaining and booking is available through Watson Burton’s website.
Next week, we are supporting the NCBF, NFB, FMB and CECA North East with the launch of the Construction Alliance Northeast (CAN). If you are an SME and would like further details please contact me.
There is less than 4 weeks to go until the G4C 2016 Awards at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead so if you haven’t already booked your tickets, please contact Leanne. Also if you are thinking of attending the CENE 2016 Awards please contact Leanne as places are going fast!
Best wishes
Catriona

New AM2 Testing Centre
Newcastle College’s new £145K AM2 Centre is now open and available to provide assessment services to those training up electro-technical apprentices, or for electrical contractors who wish to upskill existing staff. The new centre has been fitted with the latest equipment, setting a new standard in the region for customers to benefit from. The AM2 assessment provides a robust check on the competence of those seeking a future working with electricity. As a compulsory assessment for an electro-technical apprentice, it is trusted by employers as the most effective means of demonstrating whether someone is fit to join the industry, as well as creating a professional standard that contractors look for their own staff to obtain.
How long does it take? It is a practical assessment with a short online component, taken over 16.5 hours in total. During this time candidates will undertake a series of timed tasks in specially equipped booths containing typical electrical installation wiring systems. The exercises include installation, inspection and testing and faultfinding and the work must comply with the current IEE Wiring Regulations and be carried out in line with health and safety best practice. Fees and booking Our AM2 assessments are flexible, there are multiple start dates every week, please call the centre to find out the next available start date. The fee for a full assessment (first attempt) is £595, re-sits are available.
To talk over your requirements or make a booking please call Joanne Macauley on 0191 200 4541 or Gary Soulsby on 07825 008 097. The College’s AM2 Centre is located within our Energy Academy, on Hadrian Road in Wallsend, there is ample car parking and it is a 2 minute walk from Wallsend metro station.
