MENSAJE DEL DIRECTOR

El desarrollo de la tecnología y la importancia de la internacionalidad son temas que, además de formar parte de nuestras fortalezas, han sido aspectos que han estado presente durante estos días.

El TECH-DAY, realizado el viernes 26 de febrero, dio la oportunidad a nuestros alumnos de usar, de manera responsable y educativa, los diferentes dispositivos tecnológicos del mundo actual. Tablets, laptops, celulares fueron los reyes de la jornada con los cuales se planificaron actividades en el aula.

Por otra parte, la Semana del Internacionalismo que se desarrolla durante estos días da la posibilidad a los alumnos de entender claramente el carácter de nuestra Institución, la cual posee Colegios repartidos en 3 continentes. Charlas de padres y madres de familia, representantes de Embajadas y Embajadores dan un marco cultural a una semana que culminará el sábado 5 de marzo con el Día de las Culturas, muestra gastronómica, artística y cultural de diversos países.

TECH-DAY

Día de la Tecnología

Por una jornada de clases, las mochilas fueron reemplazadas por las computadores, celulares inteligentes y tabletas electrónicas con la finalidad de concienciar a nuestros alumnos sobre el correcto uso de las TIC's.

De esta manera, los niños de 3 años hasta los más grandes de último curso pudieron aplicarlas en las distintas materias. Sus dispositivos digitales les permitieron investigar temas puntuales a través del Internet, descargar aplicaciones educativas, trabajar en grupo, cargar y descargar contenidos de la plataforma Moodle del Colegio e incluso tomar apuntes.

Por otro lado, las pantallas digitales del Colegio les brindaron a los profesores la oportunidad de realizar una clase mucho más interactiva y dinámica.

Nuestros alumnos disfrutaron de esta jornada diferente que rompió paradigmas y clásicas costumbres. Tenemos que convivir con el desarrollo tecnológico, no huir de sus beneficios. Las TIC's son necesarias para fomentar una mejor educación.

TALLER DE MATEMÁTICAS

Nuestras profesoras del Departamento de Matemática de la Sección Primaria asistieron el 22 de febrero a un curso de actualización realizado en el Hotel Quito. El tema central del taller fue las “Matemáticas para el Siglo XXI”.

El taller planteó diferentes estrategias motivadoras para inspirar la curiosidad de los estudiantes por aprender Matemáticas. En esta propuesta entran en juego actividades lúdicas y el uso de la tecnología.

Estar al día con nuevas propuestas siempre enriquece el quehacer educativo. Resulta muy reconfortante tener oportunidades de esta naturaleza, las cuales van en beneficio de nuestros estudiantes.

A PICNIC DAY, A MARVELOUS ACTIVITY

Students were happily waiting for their PICNIC and barbeque day. On Friday the 19^th, students from 2^nd B and 7^th B enjoyed a beautiful day out in the prairie at School.

They had won the second place in the Third English Song Festival and this outdoor activity was one of the prizes. Having the chance to interact with their classmates, practicing the language and playing was a fantastic way to end up the week.

21ST CENTURY EDUCATION

SEK Los Valles Basic Education Teachers attended the “21st Century Demands in Education” training course, which was held at Quito Hotel on February 24th and organized by Librería Studium, given by Alexandra Molina an expert in class strategies, and who belongs to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, an international academic organization that works for innovation in the teaching-learning process.

There, we had the opportunity to share our teaching experience as an IB School with other colleagues from other institutions. Besides, we shared with them how our school´s teachers take advantage of the technological resources provided by our Institution to perform a job according to the global technological advances.

We are convinced that a permanent training is part of the professionalism needed to work, and improve our students’ English skills.

PYP 6 Kindness Boxes

As part of their Unit of Inquiry, each student was required to create a box for someone in the class filled with things to make the person feel appreciated, cared for and treasured as a part of the PYP 6 group. It was done anonymously and the children loved the surprises in store for them as they opened their box.

From special notes and delicious treats to fancy hats and colourful pictures, each box was created to express our Central Idea, "The choices we make affect how we interact with others."

Fibonacci Clocks

Last half term the Year 9 pupils made their own Fibonacci clocks linking mathematical topics of construction and sequences. Their hour hand was the Fibonacci spiral. The majority of their Colour Friday was devoted to the clocks and their hard efforts have paid off with most of the pupils completing the clocks with a design and stand.

The winning clock was made by Johnny and Mykyta. Their excellent team work and stricking design won them the prize. Jessica and Cristina also produced high quality clocks and both take an honourable second place.
