Success Is When...

Just days ago CrossPoint’s Recreation Minister, Brian Harris, shared a fine devotional with the Senior Staff that centered on the success of the most recent basketball season.  I have asked Brian’s permission to share his devotion with you today.

We talk often about the thousands of people that come to The Point for basketball every season. I have been asked several times recently if the season was a “success.” How do we define success in ministry? Success is not about the number of people that participate in an event but rather the impact made for the Kingdom of God through that event. Defining success that way, I would say this was one of our more successful seasons.

Success is when…

1…A dad says, “This is the first time my child has ever played on a team. He not only learned about competition in a healthy atmosphere but learned how to be part of a team and to love the game of basketball.”

2…A coach says, “I didn't realize how much I needed this.”

3…A coach says, “I am sorry I didn't stay committed after renewing my membership with CrossPoint and my covenant with the Lord in 2015. I get it, and I am in for 2016.”

4…A senior in high school works almost every night of basketball to pay for Deeper, Summer Camp and the Student Summer Mission Trip.

5…I see Just One More in worship on Sunday or at the Christmas Eve service because they were invited at basketball by coaches and parents.

6…A team quotes the Lord’s Prayer after every practice and game.

7…A young man, 25 years old, walks in my office and says, “How do I join this church? I feel welcome here unlike anywhere else I have been.” The Recreation staff has made a huge impact on him over the last few years.

8…A third generation in one family helps his dad coach and observes how to coach and impact young men for the Kingdom of God.

9…A mom says, “My son doesn't have a father figure. Coach was that for him. Thank you.”

10…A basketball player is baptized, and after worship the mom says, “Did you see his coach and team up there with him? This is the first time he has been part of any team. Thank you.”

This year’s basketball season was a success.  I am thankful for Brian and his recreation ministry.  I also thank the Lord for the numerous other servants who serve so faithfully with Brian to reach JUST ONE MORE for our Father’s glory.

Inviting & Bringing JUST ONE MORE to CrossPoint

Since our inception we have invited JUST ONE MORE to worship with us on Resurrection Day.  It is the most natural Sunday to invite a guest to church, since so many people are looking for a place to celebrate the resurrection.

This year we are stepping up our efforts by “bringing” JUST ONE MORE to CrossPoint.  Invitation cards will be in the worship guide the next three Sundays.  Extra cards are available at the Connector.  Let’s use the greatest day in human history as a day of outreach by inviting and bringing JUST ONE MORE to hear the gospel.

Thank You for Loving My Family and Me

Vonda and I are still trying to absorb all the expressions of love and encouragement you gave us during our 20th anniversary celebration last month.  We read and reread every card, note, letter and email. I have also saved every note for future reflection.

Twenty years is a long time to serve in one church (Center Point & CrossPoint).  I have had both the joy of celebrating life and the sorrow of grieving death with you.  Weddings, family dedications, baptisms and so many other passages of life are some of the privileges I have shared with you as your pastor.  Yet the greatest honor is to love you.

We thank the Lord Jesus for allowing us to become a part of your family these last two decades.  We pray for many more years of ministry and mission together with you. We love you, and we thank the Lord for you.
