MDRU Represented on Two of Five Integra Gold Rush Challenge Final Teams
MDRU – Mineral Deposit Research Unit at The University of British Columbia is proud to announce representatives on two of the top five final teams in the highly competitive Integra Gold Rush Challenge. Craig Hart, MDRU Director, and Sara Jenkins, MDRU GIS Specialist, comprise Team GoldRX; and MDRU PhD student Fabien Rabayrol is a member of Team Data Miners - a group of six students from the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique and UBC.

These finalists were selected from more than 100 team and individual submissions. A blue ribbon panel of industry icons determined the top five finalists. The winner will be decided at a Gala event held during the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada conference in Toronto on Sunday March 6.

The Integra Gold Rush Challenge was launched by Integra Gold Corp as a global crowd-sourcing opportunity to discover the next big, high-grade and cost-effective target on their Sigma-Lamaque orogenic gold property near Val d’Or, Québec. Integra Gold owns the intellectual property of more than 6 terabytes of digital mining and exploration data, spanning more than 75 years of mining activity and 9 million ounces of gold production in Val-d'Or. Many millions of dollars have been spent by others acquiring this digital data – and Integra decided now was the time to use it.
“We are very happy to have this opportunity to be recognized and to show-off some of the mineral deposit expertise and targeting skills that MDRU brings to our projects and provides to our corporate sponsors,” said Dr. Craig Hart, MDRU Director.  “Sara’s technical skills bring my geological insights to life, so we make a powerful complimentary team.”
“I joined a group of graduate students from the INRS-ETE in Québec City with some former classmates from LaSalle Beauvais in France. We were all very excited to work together again and participate in this competitive and international exploration challenge,” said Fabien Rabayrol, MDRU PhD Candidate. “We are all looking forward to presenting our findings and defending our ideas at the Shark Tank Finale on Sunday. This is going to be an outstanding opportunity for us as students to promote ourselves, interact people from different sectors of the mining industry and bring a fresh look to mineral exploration.”
