SWU Tennis comes home!

The Men's Tennis Team played Findlay this past Friday in the first match ever to take place at Rev. Leroy Cox Tennis Complex. The match took place on the lower courts. The upper courts are nearly ready to come online. See below for more SWU athletics!

Charleston staff attends conference

Leigh Thomson, admissions coordinator – Charleston, and Dean Grile, senior director of recruitment services, attended the 41st South Carolina Council of the International Literacy Association (SCIRA) conference as exhibitors Feb. 25 – 27. The conference was a great chance for SWU's Adult and Graduate Studies program to have exposure and access to 2,500 teachers from across the state. The conference provided the opportunity to share with attendees about SWU's MEDAS and MEDCL programs and continuing education / professional development.

Come enjoy a night of music as the “Peanuts” gang helps Charlie Brown figure out what it really means to be a good man. This Broadway classic will be directed by SWU’s new vocal professor, Heather Haithcock. Golf Team Haiti fundraiser

The SWU Golf Team is having a fundraiser on March 10 from 5-9 p.m. at Moe's in Anderson to help raise money for a mission trip to Haiti this summer with Mission of Hope Haiti. Contact Coach Joey Maxon at jmaxon@swu.edu or download the flyer for details.

Lunch and Learn at Rickman Library

Rickman Library is hosting a Lunch and Learn at Noon on March 15, featuring Kindel Thomas.  Meet in the library instruction area on the first floor to learn all about essential oils. Bring your own lunch. For details, contact Shannon Brooks, director of library services, at ext. 5072.
 

Trail Routes to be presented at public meeting

The Green Crescent Trail is a proposed network of greenways and other walking and bike paths in the Clemson-Central-Pendleton area. Trail routes will be revealed in two presentations March 10 – from Noon-1 p.m. and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Town of Central City Hall in the Council Chambers. Read more>>

SWU receives donation from Fairfield Inn & Suites

Fairfield Inn and Suites of Anderson donated 60 desk chairs to Southern Wesleyan University Feb. 24. Pictured are Debbie O’Quinn, the hotel’s general manager, and Bill Weatherford Jr., managing partner of Westway Hospitality.

Reunion of Upcountry Families returns to SWU Saturday


The next Reunion of Upcountry Families is scheduled for March 10-12 and will include family history workshops, cemetery tours and more. On March 12, SWU will host historic displays from area families as well as local genealogical and historical associations on its campus in Central. Read more>>

Congratulations!

Tina Collins ('11) a China Studies (specialized major) graduate, paid a visit March 3 to SWU while visiting the U.S. Collins lives in Beijing and is a dialog coach for several Chinese actresses. Collins, center, is pictured in the Alumni House with Joy Bryant and Ethan Cashwell.
Rupal Shah (’04) crossed the finish line in Tokyo Feb. 28, completing her seventh marathon! In addition to the Tokyo Marathon, Shah has completed the New York Marathon and Boston Marathon. Shah is a chemistry/biology graduate whose honors have included Harvard Hero, also a Young Leader Award form SWU Alumni Association.
USA Triathlon reported Lindsey Torgerson (’09) is the Number One All-American Duathlete for 2015 in her age group. She said “I thank God for my health everyday and I am so very excited for what's to come!” Torgerson is a business graduate and member of SWU’s 2007 NCCAA Championship Women’s Basketball Team.
During the March 9 Brown Bag Lunch Series session, Attorney Katherine Dudley Helms will address Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA).  This session will explain what FMLA is, while covering qualifications and requirements, responsibilities of managers and employees, and additional topics. Space is limited, so advanced registration is required. Contact SWU School of Business for details.

Wellness Week (March 28 – April 1) is fast approaching. In collaboration with Baptist Easley Hospital, the health center will offer lab screening tests this year on Monday, March 28. We will have appointments from 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. Below is a list of the tests being offered and prices. Please contact Lori Herron at lherron@swu.edu or ext. 5134 if you are interested in scheduling a time. Remember spouses/family members are welcome to participate! 

The lab tests include the following:
  • Lipid Profile - $15
  • CBC - $7
  • PTP - $7
  • PSA - $19
  • Liver Panel - $10

Out of the Darkness Walk April 2

SWU’s Counseling and Health Services office, in coordination with Sigma Delta, will be hosting SWU’s first suicide prevention walk to benefit the South Carolina Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on Saturday, April 2 at the Joe R. Gilbert track and field. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. Click here for details, online registration, and to donate.
