Wearable Art 2 Fuses Fine Craft, Fashion and Fun

Where else will you see intricate embroidery and fine fabrics next to unconventional materials like hot glue and zip ties? International, national, and local artists have created a unique collection of handcrafted dresses, codpieces, corsets, and headpieces, which will be on display at the Saskatchewan Craft Council at the end of March.

Get lost in the subtle hand-dyed silk in Christina Bennett’s A Formal Post Apocalypse. Be surprised by the inventive use of seemingly mundane landscape fabric, which creates ruffles and frills in Miranda Jones' Toxic Tutu. Laugh at the bailing twine in Anita Rocamora’s Hay Hay, good lookin! AKA Farm Fatale. Wearable Art 2 is astonishing in its variety and artistry! The exhibition is suitable for all ages and will inspire artists, designers, and fashion aficionados.

Curated by Saskatchewan Craft Council Exhibition and Education Coordinators Leslie Potter and Maia Stark, Wearable Art 2 was selected from pieces entered in the Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala (SWAG), which was took place November 14, 2015 at the historic Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon. Included in the exhibition are all seven SWAG award-winning pieces, including Best In Show The Paper Princess by Monique Martin and Janet Taylor (SK).

A public Exhibition Reception will take place on Friday, April 1 from 7 to 9 pm at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery (813 Broadway Avenue, Saskatoon, SK). All are welcome! The curators and many of the artists will be in attendance, and there will be a performance by local poet Ryan Bradshaw and dancer Lina Kazan.
