There is something about gathering together in a circle, all facing one another, that is deeply uplifting. Think about the last time you stood or sat in a circle of fellow human beings. How different from the linear movement that dominates much of our days, from the city street to the grocery store line-up… a bustle of strangers each on their own private missions, their sights set to where they’re going next... The circle, in contrast, says, “come, rest, you belong here.”
And simply being together with people living a similar, if not identical, experience can help ease the sense of isolation that can come with finding ourselves in a challenging new role. It allows us to not just know that we are not alone, but to experience it.
I would love to offer circles like this as a form of support to people navigating other transitions in their lives. I believe that we are social beings, all of us, and sorting through the challenges we face during times of change is not something we are meant to do solo.
So I invite you to pause and ask yourself: is there any area in my life where I’m feeling alone, where I’m craving connection with other people walking the same path?
Maybe it’s a difficult path, maybe an exciting one, or perhaps a combination of both... Whatever the case, if you’d like to connect with others on the same path, I'd love to hear from you. Let me know where you could see a circle supporting you. If I hear a common theme emerging, we’ll see what we can organize!
