Updates

The New Day Campaign was founded in 2015 as a short-lived project. By the time it concluded in December, it was clear it needed to continue. For the past six weeks, a dedicated team has worked hard to build a road map to the future. We have made much progress.

For the next sixteen months, serving as a consultant to the Campaign, I will work closely with an Advisory Group to raise money, build an infrastructure, and hire key staff to carry out the Campaign's mission of using art to challenge stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness, making the world a more healing place.

As the Campaign's founder, I am so grateful to see the energy behind keeping it up. I especially want to thank those who took part in three critical planning meetings in recent weeks: Amy Bortner, Gayle Carney, Adrienne Ellis, Phylicia Ghee, Joanna Guy, Chris Jones, Tiffany Jones, Jessica Kohnen, Nancy Lewin, and Sherry Welch. So much heart and expertise in the room.

This thing is happening, and happening fast. In the coming weeks and months, we will have much to share with you. Thank you for being part of the ride.

— Peter Bruun, Founder

Thank you Cunningham's

Thanks to Cunningham's Cafe and their new "Bagby Give Back" program, the New Day Campaign is receiving more than $300. On February 24, Cunningham's elected to give a percentage of the proceeds from that day to us. So many of you turned out in support, and for that we are grateful. (One supporter, Rita Singer, celebrated her birthday that day by coming to Cunningham's for both lunch and dinner!) If you missed us on February 24, it's not too late to enjoy Cunningham's Cafe, open 7 days a week. You might just catch sight of New Day Campaign founder Peter Bruun, who is often there, working away at his laptop.

Shout Out: 15th Anniversary KRSF

On Sunday, June 12, the Kristin Rita Strouse Foundation (KRSF) will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a speaker event not to be missed, featuring Major General Mark Graham (Ret.) and Carol Graham. For event details, tickets, and sponsorship information, visit http://www.krsf.com.

This special event will celebrate the accomplishments of the Kristin Rita Strouse Foundation in its first 15 years -- namely, investing over $1.3 million in support of national and local programs that increase mental health awareness, strengthen suicide prevention efforts, and provide help and healing through the arts for those affected by suicide and mental illness.

Event proceeds will support ongoing work of the foundation. Artwork from the New Day Campaign's Touched with Fire: Kristin & Elisif will also be on display.

Shout Out: Recovery Quilt

The Nikki Perlow Foundation, committed to helping young adults and their families struggling with addiction and recovery, is celebrating success with The Road to Recovery Quilt project. Each quilt panel is a brick in the road of someone who is conquering their addiction to drugs and alcohol. As the quilt grows, so will awareness that there are many successful and powerful stories on the road to recovery. Visit The Road to Recovery Quilt page and add your own brick.

Shout Out: Create for Recovery

Mosaic Community Services is rolling that its Create for Recovery campaign, an opportunity for artists to create art and raise funds to support therapeutic art programs for people with mental illness and addiction. Participants will be featured as Artist Partners on their createforrecovery.org site. Artist Partners are invited to participate in an end-of-campaign auction, where finished pieces will be sold and artists will get to meet and greet Mosaic's broad network of supporters who buy art.
