Welcome to the latest edition of AMIA's My Mango, your weekly roundup of the latest industry forecasts, wholesale prices and marketing activities, delivered to your inbox every Monday throughout the season. 

As the season is now drawing to a close this will be the final My Mango for 2015/16. However, we will continue to keep you updated with the latest mango news via ‘The Slice’, which will be issued monthly until the new season commences.

Mango Crop Forecast

Mareeba/Dimbulah

The season here is now coming to a close as Brooks, Palmer and Keitts are in the last weeks of harvesting.

SE Queensland

The KP, Honey Gold and Calypso seasons are now complete in SE QLD, with only small amounts of late varieties still left to harvest.

Gingin WA

The region is now winding down as the last of the KP and R2E2 harvest comes to a close. Harvest volumes currently at the end of last week are 48k with up to 8k this week.

This is the mango production graph that maps the current production, predicted production and a comparison with last season’s production flow. This graph will be updated on a weekly basis. The graph shows the following:

  • Volumes dispatched to date
  • Volumes forecast
  • Last season’s crop flow

The following prices offer a snapshot of the main lines of mangoes being sold in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide markets over the past week. The prices below are based on a standard tray*. To view the complete price data for last week, or view daily prices, please click here.

Throughout February key foodie influencers on Instagram received delicious trays of Aussie Mangoes, which has resulted in some fantastic social coverage, reminding the community that mangoes are still in abundance in stores. @bananarawpublic, @elsas_wholesomelife, @em.peachy and @healthycleantimes all posted beautiful images to a combined following of 322,300 people!

Also throughout February, key Australian lifestyle and food magazines have been publishing delicious recipes, driving readers to experiment more with Aussie Mangoes and keep them front of mind right up until the end of the season. These include Recipes+, Good Health, Gourmet Traveller, Women's Health, Women's Weekly Food, and New Idea with a combined circulation of 561,871 people. 
 
Significantly, Donna Hay Light & Fresh recently published a beautiful 10 page spread featuring all things Mango, including recipes for mango popsicles, granita, salads and tartlets. Be sure to grab your copy from stores now before the season finishes! 
 
Also, last week Women's Fitness posted a delicious fish and mango salsa taco recipe to their website. Check out the tasty recipe here

Mango Quality Standards

Previous consumer research, including consumer research undertaken last season identified that consumer satisfaction is closely aligned with sweetness of ripe mangoes measured as Brix of the fruit flesh and to fruit dry matter.
 
The industry has adopted and promoted the following minimum standard for mangoes according to cultivar.  

Kensington Pride,
Calypso, Honey Gold
Dry Matter       15%
Brix                  14%
R2E2 Dry Matter       13%
Brix                  12%
