BE THE PARENT YOU WANT TO BE! Think:Kids Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach, based in MGH's Department of Psychiatry, provides parents with concrete tools to better understand and parent their kids in the face of day-to-day challenges – e.g., getting to school, homework, screen time, bedtime – and more serious challenges. It’s based on the understanding that many kids lack the skill, not the will, to behave well – specifically skills related to problem solving, flexibility and frustration tolerance. This CPS approach helps parents to: 1) Shift their thinking and approach to foster positive relationships with their child; 2) Reduce their child’s challenging behavior; 3) Build their child's self-regulation, communication and problem-solving skills; and 4) Solve problems collaboratively and proactively. For more information and to register for the March or April/May workshop in Brookline, please visit: http://betheparentyouwanttobe.weebly.com/

Q: Tell us about the programs you are involved in at Driscoll.

If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.  ~ Colin Powell

We have passed the halfway mark in the 2015-2016 school year; our key success has been the collaborative effort of parents, staff, and community.   Grab your calendar and a pencil; March is going to be a busy, fun-filled month! We had over 40 eighth graders audition for our Alice In Wonderland play and we observed amazing talent and excitement in all of them singing and acting at auditions last week.  Parts for the play will be given out at rehearsal on March 8, 2016.

This week two Kindergarten classes continue with Cuddle Up and read in the library.

On Friday March 4th, we look forward to Music to My Ears performing in the theater for all grade levels.   Interim Progress Reports will be coming out on March 4th.

We are so excited to have Urban Improv return to the Driscoll School on March 1, 8, 15th!

"Urban Improv is an interactive program for young people that uses improvisational theater workshops to teach violence prevention, conflict resolution, and decision-making.

The program's innovative curriculum helps students deal creatively with major issues in their lives.  “It is truly a rehearsal for life." -Urban Improv Website

Don't forget that the Driscoll Science Fair is coming soon on Saturday, March 12th!

Please visit the Driscoll Science Fair website for more information about this exciting event!  http://www.driscollscience.org/

Families in Grades 3-8 should have received the revised MCAS schedule over Blackboard.  It is also posted on the Driscoll Google calendar on the website.

We look forward to working together with you in the weeks ahead!

Best, Eileen and David
