The Sepsis Definitions Task Force recently changed the definitions of Sepsis and Septic Shock while removing Severe Sepsis.  The big changes are:

• Replacement of SIRS with qSOFA score
• Removal of Severe Sepsis
• Addition of lactate to Septic Shock definition
• Widespread adoption of the SOFA score for mortality prediction
