February Newsletter

February has been characterized by fun and helpful visits. As Karen was not able to come back as planned, we have been in need of an English teacher.

In the first part of the month, we were lucky enough to have a dear friend and volunteer visiting, who taught the girls English and gave them everything she had in energy and affection while she was here.

These weeks we are lucky enough to have Karenâ€™s grandmother here to teach both English and Kindergarten. We hear great reviews from the girls on her teaching. With her came a handyman friend who is taking care of a lot of small and much needed fixes around the place.

Valentine's day

We cannot say February without saying Valentine's day. It was celebrated thoroughly in church, but we did of course need our own party, with games, cupcakes, ValentineÂ´s cards, and artwork in the form of pictures of the girls set up in a heart shape.

Learning Center benefits

We valued the flexibility of having our own Learning Center these past weeks as we were able to mix up the schedule and start the day at 4am to go see the planet alignment a day in the beginning of the month. They all spent the day learning about the solar system following the field trip.

This past week we were able to take the girls to a concert with a youth symphony orchestra in Siguatepeque and give them a chance to experience the variety in instruments first hand. An hour and a half of classical music is a lot for especially the smaller ones, but it

was no doubt an experience for them, and it piqued their curiosity for the new and exotic instruments they saw and heard.

Dance

Our Saturday drives to San Pedro for dance and drawing lessons continue, and are well worth the trip. This month Denia and Paola are participating in a workshop on contemporary dance on top of the weekly lessons and are enjoying every minute of it.
