Celebrating Traditions

On February 26th, as accustomed we celebrate the Dominican independence month as well as the folklore, music and dance, being this an important part that have forged colorful expressions of each country's respective history and cultures.

From an early time, it was wonderful to see the preschool and elementary students enter the school’s front door with their beautiful costumes.
Independencia Nacional

National Institute of Forensics Pathology

On February 24th the ninth and tenth graders had the opportunity to visit the National Institute of Forensics Pathology (morgue). There, they had the opportunity to meet with the institute’s director Mr. Santos Jimenez Páez, who gladly explained the students the process of an autopsy.

They dressed as true medical examiners and entered the autopsy room where they observed a corpse and identified the cause of death. They were also able to study a human skull and some of the bones that compose the internal framework of a body.

This experience provided the opportunity for students to encounter and explore what they have learned inside the classroom on human anatomy.

Student/Teacher Basketball Competition

On Friday, February 26th, our school had an awesome afternoon when some of our teachers and 12th grade students had a friendly competition playing basketball.  The varied audience of students and teachers cheered enthusiastically, some for our talented 12th grade team and others for our energetic teachers.

The game was very close, but at the end the teachers won by one point, similar to last year, when the students won by one point.   At first, we all thought that the students were going to win, but the teachers broke through! A great sports activity where participants and cheering crowd

Definitely a great game!

PYP 6 Kindness Boxes

As part of their Unit of Inquiry, each student was required to create a box for someone in the class filled with things to make the person feel appreciated, cared for and treasured as a part of the PYP 6 group.  It was done anonymously and the children loved the surprises in store for them as they opened their box.  From special notes and delicious treats to fancy hats and colourful pictures, each box was created to express our Central Idea, "The choices we make affect how we interact with others."

Fibonacci Clocks

Last half term the Year 9 pupils made their own Fibonacci clocks linking mathematical topics of construction and sequences. Their hour hand was the Fibonacci spiral. The majority of their Colour Friday was devoted to the clocks and their hard efforts have paid off with most of the pupils completing the clocks with a design and stand.

The winning clock was made by Johnny and Mykyta. Their excellent team work and stricking design won them the prize. Jessica and Cristina also produced high quality clocks and both take an honourable second place.
