8 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at the CEO Forum

The CEO Forum & Reps Meeting is right around the corner! As one of CQIN’s most valuable networking activities of the year, we’ve asked several veteran CEOs for advice on how to make the most of this year’s event. Here’s what we learned:

  1. Come ready to share
The CEO Forum is an opportunity to share ideas, best practices, and even some setbacks and frustrations. This type of candid sharing has long been a hallmark of CQIN membership. Come to the Forum ready to discuss your experiences and participate in presentations with your peers in order to have the richest experience possible.
  2. Use breaks to build your personal network
It’s tempting to use break time to catch up on email, but that time can be better spent engaging with other CEOs. The Forum will afford you numerous opportunities to build your personal network of CEOs whom you can interact with directly when issues or problems arise or when an important decision needs to be made.
  3. Learn about the Learning Partners
The Forum sessions are designed to allow you to participate in senior-level discussions with the Learning Partners. Study up on the speakers who will be in attendance and come prepared to ask them specific questions. Joining us at this year’s CEO Forum will be:
    • Dr. Mark Milliron, Co-Founder and Chief Learner Officer, Civitas Learning
    • Dr. Lou A. Guthrie, Director, National Higher Education Benchmarking Institute
    • Gerry Agnes, President and CEO, Elevations Credit Union (2014 Baldrige recipient)
    • Matt McKenzie, Vice President of Digital Strategy, Intermark Group
  4. Never eat alone
Make sure to attend the CEO Networking Dinner on Thursday night for an opportunity to get to know your fellow CEOs. And if your networking skills need some brushing up, check out the bestselling business classic, Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time by Keith Ferrazzi.
  5. Bring plenty of business cards (and share them!)
Don’t leave home without a stack of business cards, and be sure to keep them handy throughout the event. Use the cards you collect to stay in touch after the event. The people you meet at the Forum can be a valuable resource when challenges, issues, and questions arise.
  6. Think ahead
Use your time at the Forum to begin identifying your team’s goals for the upcoming Summer Institute on July 31-August 3. Thinking ahead will lay the groundwork for a powerful team experience.
  7. Get to know the CQIN team
CQIN’s staff and Executive Committee members are always available to help you. Take time to talk to them about your needs and learn about the many resources that CQIN can offer to you and your institution.
