Lord Chaitanya's Appearance Day

Join us for one of our biggest festivals of the year!

One of the Toronto Hare Krishna Temple’s most exciting festivals, Gaura Purnima,  falls on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.  Celebrations will start early in the morning and continue into the evening where we are expecting a huge turnout of devotees!

Gaura Purnima marks the divine appearance of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is non-different than Lord Krishna.  He appeared in Navadwipa (modern day West Bengal) in 1486. Lord Chaitanya was born on the occasion of a full moon and blessed everyone with the moonlike rays of His teachings. He launched the movement of chanting the Holy Names of Krishna and taught how we can gain enlightenment in this age by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

It will be a special day of celebrations and for more details about this sweet festival, including a schedule of events, keep an eye on our website. There are also many sponsorship opportunities still available for the festival: garlands, flowers, aratis and the festival feast.  For more information about the festival, watch our website.  For sponsorship opportunities, feel free to contact us.

SIVA RATRI - The Toronto Hare Krishna Temple will be celebrating Siva Ratri on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Siva Ratri literally translates as, "the night of Lord Siva". Devotees of Lord Krishna view Lord Shiva as the greatest Vaishnava (devotee of Vishnu or Krishna), based on Srimad-Bhagavatam (12.13.16) which says this (among other things) about Lord Siva: vaishnavanam yatha shambhu, “Amongst all Vaishnavas, Lord Shiva is the best."  During this special Sunday Feast, we will learn more about the great qualities and pastimes of Lord Siva. We extend a special invitation to you and your family to join us for this special festival! To learn more about the festival details, keep an eye on our website!
ISKCON 50th - This year, around the world, ISKCON is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary! Our Founder Acharya, His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada incorporated ISKCON in 1965 in New York. Global festivities will celebrate Krishna conscious values, spiritual contributions by Srila Prabhupada, and the incredible impact ISKCON has had around the world! We encourage you to help us showcase Krishna consciousness through books, prasadam, educational initiatives and even by simply encouraging your friends and family to visit the temple!  The Toronto Hare Krishna Temple is working on very exciting plans to celebrate ISKCON’s 50th anniversary!  You can read more about the international celebrations at ISKCON 50.
V-CARE - Vaisnava C.A.R.E. (Counseling, Assistance, Resources, and Education) is a support system for patients and loved ones facing medical or end-of-life situations. Our primary purpose is to improve the quality of life for patients and family members within the Vaisnava faith by providing personal, holistic care.  Our Vaisnava Care Team (also known as the V-Care Team) here in Toronto is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to help in caring for those in need!  Volunteering can include making hospital visits, preparing prasadam for those who are sick, or even just offering administrative assistance to the project.  To learn more about how you can get involved, click here.
