And Then There Were None

By Agatha Christie
Directed by Bryn Rowlands

March 30th-April 16th, 2016

Set on Soldier Island off the coast of Devon, 10 strangers are invited to a mysterious rendezvous and are surprised when their hosts don’t show up.  Instead, during drinks before dinner, they are subjected to a disembodied voice accusing them of crimes they each thought were well hidden.  Not long after the accusations, the guests start mysteriously dying and they realize that they are all targets of a homicidal, revenge driven maniac, following the script of a dark nursery rhyme.
Dame Agatha wrote this play in 1941, based on her very successful best-selling novel.  Although she did not feel it to be her best play, Christie did declare it was her best piece of "craftsmanship".  She also considered it to be the play which formally started her career as a playwright.
This play is full of comedy and intrigue, with many twists and varying levels of emotional involvement on the part of the actors and the audience.  There are good guys and bad guys, but who is who and who is deceiving you?  This complicated play is ably interpreted and represented by some of the best in our wonderful little community and I promise you will enjoy it.

Your director, Bryn Rowlands.

Bryn Rowlands - Director
This lovely play is the seventh Bryn has directed.  He has been involved in about 36 plays since 2004 (acting, directing, stage managing, and technical realms).   Bryn feels very fortunate to find such a Superstar cast and crew to help bring Agatha’s vision to you.

Audition Call!

The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney
Sunday March 6th from 2pm-5pm and Monday March 7th from 7pm-10pm

Auditions for the final Dartmouth Players Production of the 2015-16 season, The Dining Room by A. R. Gurney, will be held at the Dartmouth Players Theatre, 33 Crichton Ave., in Dartmouth, on Sunday March 6th from 2 to 5pm and Monday March 7th from 7 to 10pm.

Three female and three male actors are required, each of whom will create nine different characters in all age ranges. The Dining Room is structured around multiple unique scenes and will appeal to actors who enjoy a great deal of creativity and flexibility.

Dramatist Play Service says about The Dining Room:

“A brilliantly conceived and richly humorous theatrical tour de force in which six performers portray a wide array of diverse characters as they delineate the dying lifestyle of wealthy WASPdom, and the now neglected room which was once a vital center of family life.”

The production opens on June 8th and runs for three weeks (12 evenings and two Sunday matinees). Rehearsals will begin seven to ten days following auditions..

Script extracts will be used at the audition. No appointments necessary.

Further information is available from Director, Nick Jupp at 902 477-8697 or ncjupp@gmail.com

Playwrights' Circle

The Playwrights’ Circle is a new group that will be meeting monthly at Dartmouth Players to discuss playwriting and to allow playwrights to get feedback on their scripts. Whether you have something on paper or just an idea, writers of all levels are welcome.  The goal is to have an atmosphere where writers can feel safe to share their work and improve their craft. Screenwriters are also welcome.  Please contact Jane Rogerson at janerogerson@eastlink.ca if you would like to join the group. Date of first meeting will be chosen by consensus through email.

President's Message

There are many things I love about this position. One of the things I enjoy most is seeing the looks on the faces of our actors after a stellar performance. Many of you don't see those looks, but for the times that I have stayed until the shows were over, I can tell you, there are nights when our actors are over the moon with excitement. I'm sure that many of you, our audience members, leave feeling that you wish that you had had the opportunity to say more about what you have seen.

As most of you know, all of our actors, costumers, set designers and builders, painters, lighting and sound designers, directors and producers are volunteers. At intermission we collect the program inserts which provide you with an opportunity to write a few lines to pass along your comments to our cast and crew. I would like to offer you more.

From now on, if you leave a show and have comments or appreciation you'd like to pass on to the people who contribute to our wonderful shows, I would ask you to do so. Please send any comments to president@dartmouthplayers.ns.ca and I will personally forward them to the cast & crew of the show. All of the shows we bring to stage happen because of the tireless work of volunteers on every level. One of the things I enjoy most about my position is being able to send the encouraging words along to the people who continue to captivate you, our cherished audience members!
