Technical Tips from the Faculty Help Desk

What's New

Introducing SoftChalk!

The e-Learning Center has licensed SoftChalk, a powerful content authoring tool, for a one-year pilot. Instructors and course designers can use SoftChalk to quickly design attractive, engaging course content, with the ability to embed assessment and interactive content to improve learning outcomes. Content can easily be shared with your colleagues and department. By June ELC will be offering training, but in the meantime these links will get you started:

Contact the e-Learning Center if you would like to speak with an Instructional Designer to discuss how SoftChalk might help you increase engagement in your course.

Converting Your Course to a Different Length or Type of Delivery

Have you been teaching a 16-week online course that will now be scheduled as an 8-week course? Do you have a 16-week course that needs to fit a summer or winter session four or five-week time period? Have you been teaching in-person, but now want to teach online, or vice versa? Converting a course to a new length or type of delivery can lead to multiple questions about the best ways to adapt the course content and ensure your students continue to meet the course objectives. The e-Learning Center can answer your questions and help you convert your courses. Please email elc-help@nau.edu if you would like to discuss your course.
Behind the Scenes

Non-Credit Course Deletions

Every year the e-Learning Center creates hundreds of non-credit courses to allow faculty and staff the flexibility of developing courses for future terms, master courses for the department, and resource courses to distribute pertinent information. Over time, these courses often become obsolete. In order to maintain an active list of courses, old non-credit courses are deleted. We have begun going through this extensive list and requesting permission to delete these course shells. This will create more space on the server and create a cleaner course list for you.

Please expect to hear from us if you have a non-credit course that was created for previous semesters. If you have a non-credit course that you would like to have removed, please contact us at elc-help@nau.edu

If you would like to archive the information prior to deletion to store for your personal records, please view this knowledge-base article.
