Leadership Profile Series: Emma Anderson
Originally from Illinois, Emma attended Augustana College for her bachelor’s in Psychology, Sociology and Social Welfare. She then pursued a master’s in Political and Environmental Sociology at the University of Iowa. After graduating, she moved to Denver last May and began working as the landlord engagement specialist for Volunteers of America’s Back Home Support Services for Veteran Families program (which helps veterans experiencing homelessness or at-risk of losing their housing). In her free time she loves reading, being outdoors and experiencing Denver’s local music, all traits that make her outgoing and a valued volunteer on the Membership Committee. Learn more about Emma.

Committee Spotlight: Workshop Committee
The Workshop Committee is a subcommittee of the Conference Planning Committee and is responsible for identifying workshop tracks, developing the workshop proposal process and reviewing and selecting submissions for the conference's educational content. The committee will be meeting in  April to select the workshops for the 2016 NOW! Conference. This committee is dedicated to keeping the conference the go-to source on all aspects of affordable housing. Learn more about the Workshop Committee.

In Case You Missed It! TABOR Webinar
As Colorado’s legislators continue to balance the state budget during the 2016 legislative session, the subject of the state’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights has been coming up frequently in local news. This month, Housing Colorado wanted to explore the relationship between TABOR and affordable housing, and the ways we can continue to fund housing within TABOR limitations. We partnered with Carol Hedges, executive director at the Colorado Fiscal Institute, to explore this topic on Tuesday, March 8 and over 40 viewers logged in to hear more. See what you missed during this month's webinar.

Bill Report
Learn more about the current bills presented in the legislative session that impact the housing industry and what position Housing Colorado is taking on each bill.  Draft State Budget Reached
After much negotiation and compromise, the six-member Joint Budget Committee on Thursday, March 24 unanimously approved a $27 billion draft state budget. While the 2016-17 “long bill” avoids spending cuts to education and health care providers proposed in the Governor’s budget plan and provides for an increase in discretionary spending, it also eliminates millions in taxpayer refunds, hospital payments, and road construction. You can learn more about the draft budget from this coverage by the Denver Post and Denver Business Journal. The draft budget was presented to the full House for consideration on Monday, March 28, and must pass both the House and Senate to be adopted.

Housing Colorado closely tracks and takes action on legislative matters affecting Colorado’s affordable housing industry. To stay current on these important issues, click here for the latest bill report.
